If you are walking to class or around campus and a cute girl smiles at you and says, "Hello", how do you respond. If you think she is interested, how would you pursue it. It has happened a couple times to me, but I can't manage to find a non-awkward way to ask for a name or number.

You could walk with her for awhile if you're not in a hurry to get somewhere in the opposite direction. Strike up a conversation, introduce yourself, then tell her you'd like to see her again. Or something like that.

You rush up to her, grab her and french kiss her on the spot. Then you ask for her number.

I would do that, but this always happens when I'm walking in the opposite direction of the girl.

say hi, then compliment something about her... "wow, i really like your jacket/jeans/shoes" then say your name and go from there.
It is amazing how far flattery will take you!

When in doubt ... whip it out

Or the simple solution "Hi I'm XXX" and they usually reply with their name. Then to get the number say I've gotta get to class/work but can I call you later today so we can finish talking. Or you can also say you will be at XXX bar tonight for $1 beers around 9 with your friends if her and her friends would like to join.

That's true. Someone I met on the street once told me I have a great smile. It was really flattering because I felt like it was geniune-- don't make up a random compliment. Have it be something you really mean. Maybe the first thing you noticed about her.

Compliments are so fake and superficial...

A woman knows within the first 10seconds if she finds you attractive. If you just say hi, ask her how her day is going and offer to walk her to class...it's far more relevant and attractive.

Using lines or compliments are going to look lame and pathetic.

Friends makes things more complicated. You have to sell all your friends to all her friends instead of just selling yourself.

$1 beer night makes you look cheap and you want to get her ass drunk.

Don't cut the convo short just because you get a number.

She isn't smiling at you, she is trying not to LAUGH at you. Stop dressing like Urkel...

That's why I got a Minature Pinscher puppy and I take him to the park with me. It's like fishing for women and he's the bait. They come to me. It's really unfair to the women because they really can't help themselves.

An uber cute puppy does a few things. It attracts them in because they have to pet/hold him. It allows me the oppritunity to talk to them and find my in. And it shows the girl that I'm responsible enough to keep an animal alive so I'm potentially good boyfriend material.

I have had a few married ladies hooked on this process followed by the husband coming up looking unhappy, but they usually can't say anything because they'd look foolish.....and hell, they know in my place they'd be doing the same thing.

I wish I had gotten this puppy years ago. ;)

I'm sure he can if he tried hard enough, but I doubt he wants to brag about illegal crap on an internet forum.

Actually everyone on campus uses IM...and I find it far less intrusive; I think women like it. When you are a complete stranger, why would she give you her personal phone number.

If you ask for IM she can talk to you more on her own time (ie. you don't call when she's busy and crap) and she can block you if you are a creep. :) Of course you aren't a creep, but it'll give her a sense of control.
