I moved into an apt with my gf a couple months ago. Relationship wise, it's fine. She's a bit of a clean freak, and she doesn't mind watching most of divx I download (lots of subtitled shiet). The problem is she wants to talk more.

her: what are you reading-

me: uhh, a little kundera. It's about human alientation and shiznit. It's kind of like that movie solaris where the guy can never really be sure he remembered his wife correctly.

her: ok.

....

me: what's up-

her: xiaolee (co worker) said that I look fat today. They always say that, but I guess I am.

me: (silentely groaning) no you're fine.

her: no look at this fat (squeezing stomach)

....

her: isaac, come here you gotta see this.

me: what?

her: the bachelor just ditched sherry the blonde girl.

me: and I care because?

her: *ugh* you never want to just watch tv with me.

me: *groan* because it sucks?

ad nauseum. I don't mind doing stuff with her, but evertime she wants to talk it's about some incredibley inane thing like her friend getting her hair cut, or some stupid reality tv-show. I thought girls are supposed to have friends with whom to talk about that crap.

I don't understand whats wrong really... thats pretty much how normal conversations can go... you just might need to show more interest in whats she likes, for her to show more interest in your things...

She just wants you to spend more time with her it sounds... but then again... I am outsider looking in...

Maybe you should try and find some TV that you both enjoy, or watch the news with her, because everyone has an opinion on the news and you can discuss it/argue about it.

nah, we're engaged now (been dating for 3 yrs), it's just that our conversations are nauseatingly boring. She doesn't usually have an "opinion". My theory is that because her parents babied the cr@p out of her when she was growing up, she's never had to actually make any real choices. Ergo no opinoins. Still, my attempts to make her say something independent (ie: not mimicing my opinions) have been a pretty large failure.

Sounds to me like you either...

A) Spend too much time with each other and this makes you run out of things to do so your both bored with each other.
B) You two have very little in common, and she's trying to find something that you might like?

My suggestion is find something that you both love to do and do that as much as you can. If she bores you that much, find someone who can stimulate you on more levels than just sex.

Geez, you just realized inane conversation with your girlfriend after THREE years?

Girls talking about their friends having their hair cut, or being fat is just their way of telling you they want some attention. Sounds like the book is more interesting than she is (my ex was kinda that way after a while), but shes not there to just cook and clean for you and listen to you when you want to talk.

Women require attention. Deal with it. Show some interest every now and then and you might actually find that she wont have to bother you when youre reading.
