YAGT - Springfield XD(M) Compact .45ACP

Springfield has released a new compact pistol in .45ACP with a 3.8 inch barrel.

I like the way the magazine has an extension on it to provide a full sized grip. One of the problems with compact pistols, is the grip is sometimes a little short, and the last 2 fingers hang below the grip.

I also like how this is a compact pistol, but it has a rail for a light.

Full sized Springfield XD for comparison

lol, I love nutnfancy videos. He does get long winded at times, but there's a lot of details to cover really. I guess I just find it all interesting. 🙂

Anyway, I love my Springfield XD-9; took it to the range yesterday actually. My brother and friend are also thinking about picking up one (the newer XDm though) since Springfield has a deal going on through the end of November.

I might be the only one but I actually like the looks of the original XD design better compared to the newer XDm design. It was just more simple looking and less "high-techy" looking if that makes any sense. As far as performance changes, I don't think there was anything major. The interchangeable backstraps with XDm guns are nice though.

I like my XD45 5" tatical. Smooth operating, smooth shooting and a cinch to break down.
Very accurate as well. I have tried several loads (including my own handloads) and nothing has jammed yet.

I would like to try the XDM and see how it fairs for accuracy compared to the regular XD.

I have the XDm 9mm compact and like it quite a bit. The biggest issue for me is with the compact mag my pinky hangs below the grip making it awkward. You can buy and replace the magazine base with something that has a wedge on it giving your hand room to grip but not ruining the compactness of it. Makes me wonder why in the hell that wasn't done in the first place.

Anyway it's a fine gun. Incredibly easy to strip and clean. Well built and should fit most hands. Has a Glock type of feel but not as thick, so it seems to fit smaller hands than a Glock normally does. With the adjustable grip sizes you can find something that feels right.

So its COMPACT!

Duh.

Also, try shooting a full size gun without your pinky next time. You'd be amazed how useless it really is.
Learn to shoot with just the other fingers, overall you'll be happier for it. After you get good you can shoot any gun full or compact without difficulty.

Why? Springfield is awesome. Customer service is amazing. 1911s are great.

They mislead customers into thinking that they're connected with the original Springfield Armory when in fact they're just a marketing company that sells Croatian and Brazilian made guns that they didn't even design.

When I bought mine, i purchased it with that knowledge. I also purchased it based on LOTS of overwhelming positive feedback from the online gun community. I am not disapointed.

I have a xd 9mm Sub compact, its a good gun, my hands are a little smaller so only my pinky dosent fit on the grip.

everything you like about has been on compact glocks for years 😛

they are nice guns

as long as you can get both, half the point of compacts is concealment and the extra large grip will hinder that

That's sort of my beef with them also. I don't fault them for it, they're like Apple, they sell magical items and image. If the products are excellent or terrible it doesn't matter too much, people are buying them for different reasons.

When I picked up my Smith M&P 9c I thought I would use the magazine with the finger extension. Turns out I prefer the flat bottom magazine more as only my pinky doesn't fit and to be honest I don't even notice it.

They also have some of the best guns smiths in the country. They make a quality product and stand behind it.

Glock is an Austrian company and they didn't design them here. They have a plant in Smyrna, GA but when times are tough they import Austrian made guns. Does that make Glock crap? What about Sig? Or HK?

What Springfield gun is terrible? The XD and XDm's all get praises. Their 1911's get praises too. The M1A line of rifles are the only M1 style new production gun you can get.

Or would you prefer to have the Smith and Wesson Sigma line of guns instead? Or the SD line of "improved" sigmas. How about their revolvers with the lock in it that would engage itself after a few rounds fired through it. This was a problem on some lines, which is why their revolver business isn't going as good as it used to.

I've had Springfield 1911's, 2 XD-40's, and XD-9, an XD-45 Compact and all have been good reliable guns.

Does not really make it any less compact. It's uncomfortable to shoot the original way, especially when the full magazine supports all fingers. You will not shoot a gun as well if you know it doesn't feel right.

Not really a fan of the XD line either. Tried out an XD-M 9mm at the range some time ago. Not really good or bad, just seemed mediocre. But given the XD's features, I'd take one over a Glock. For a similar compact I'd opt for the Ruger SR*c instead.

My brother is supposed to get his commemorative XD-45 at some point and he'll want to take it out ASAP. It might change my mind, I'm willing to give the line another go.

Glock and Sig and HK don't mislead their customers into thinking they are made here.

By calling themselves "Springfield Armory" and having marketing pitches like "The first name in American firearms" (or whatever it says, the implication is that they were the first gun manufacturer in the US), they are being misleading.

I'm not saying their guns are garbage. But their marketing rubs me the wrong way.

However I don't see any reason to get an XD when you could get a M&P or Glock for a few dollars more.

Questions for gun gurus.

So what are the main points of difference between the XD and the new XD(M)? Are they worth it for the extra premium price?

^^Depends on what you want. The "M" stands for match grade, which translates to a different trigger, higher-grade barrel, slightly higher capacity, slightly deeper grips. Most relevant to competition shooters.
