Unless it was pre-95, which isn't as crazy. From the description above a new barrel and firing pin and it might work.

I'm curious to know what has been done to it, but as I have no means of comparison I can't tell, if any of you guys have a 1911 I'll post pics of the frame, slide and barrel and you can tell me! :)

he'd need a new slide also and the frame rails are cut off, so I doubt it would work even if he managed to replace the other stuff.

He might get 1 shot off but then the slide would probably jam because the rails are cut off. I don't know what kind of restrictions they have on buying gun parts over there either.

besides, wouldn't it be illegal to make it fire?

It would all be illegal, I'm not going to do it, I'm just curious about what's been done.

Any chance of an image of a 1911 with frame rails so I can see what you guys mean and compare?

the part of the frame that the slide slides on:

hmm...actually now that i think about it, I'm not sure what cutting the frame's slide rails would do. The slide on the 1911 in particular wouldn't go back far enough to slip out of the rails. On the example of the sig in that previous link, it might (i've never shot a sig)

I don't know enough about it to comment... I assume it does something...

Yeah, nvm I didn't realize the rails had been cut. Very much useless now.

well i was going by the sig rails in the link abut deactivated guns.

This is a 1911 and the way the rails are on that, I don't think it would necessarily cause a problem because the slide will never go past the rails in normal operation.

I think on guns where the slide rails follow the entire length of the frame, it might cause problems.

For the rear it might be fine, but if they cut the rear then I would expect the front ones to be milled down as well, which would probably cause more of an issue.

Can I provide more photo's for diagnosis? If so where abouts?

looks like all they did was cut a section of the middle of the length of the rail out. According that one site, they have to remove 2/3 of the rail.

on some guns it might cause the slide to bind/jam when fired. otherwise i don't know.

Hmm interesting I'd have thought that if someone wanted to deactivate a gun then doing something like that seems quite "hit and miss" pun intended.

On one site it was mentioned this was also done to weaken it, which now begs the question of how many rounds could you get off with only 1/3 of the rail remaining before failure. :hmm:

if i remember correctly ruger cut the frame rail 50% on a p85 and shot 1000 rounds without a failure. This is when they were trying to get the military contract

New barrel, new firing pin, looks ready to go to me.

As somebody else said, don't know how many rounds before the weakened frame rails let go, but it looks like there's still enough material there for the slide to cycle correctly.

PS: I still don't like you.
