YAGT: Relationships get boring!!!

Not really a YAGT because I am married, but I have come up with the theory that every relationship is doomed from the start unless you are looking for mindless unconditional love.

A person becomes attracted to another person because they find that person interesting (let's ignore sexual attraction). A relationship develops, and those two people become more and more like each other. Then what is there that is interesting about the other person? Those interesting traits are gone because the two people have become very much like each other.

Oh, I don't mean this specifically about my marriage, because I've realized that being married simply means ignoring all of those urges to meet new woman, and beating down those sexual feelings. Basically, a big un-natural sacrifice for a young male.

find a partner who is not so co-dependant and has a life outside of the one you two share.

Thats probably good advice. My gf just moved into my place 3 weeks ago and I am having doubts about our relationship now.

Personally, I revel in the differences between myself and my wife. Yes she has irritating quirks and so do I. BUT it's our differences that add spice to everything.

Encourage new interests, time spent pursuing individual interests. Although there is a fine line between sharing a life with someone and having personal interests, and growing apart due to said interests, it is essential.

My wife and I are successful, I believe, because she is independent (as am I), and we don't spent 24/7 with each other, and have loads to talk about that the other doesn't know about.

i think it's common to get a little antsy after a couple years of marriage. once you get through it, you're sailing.

some friends of mine actually went to counselling to find this out - most couples get some form of cabin fever after the honeymoon phase is over.

i've only been married about 2 1/2 years, but honest to goodness, i didn't realize the full extent of the commitment & sacrifice until fairly recently.

but i'm happier than a pig in sh1t! :)

I've had a relationship fail for exactly that reason. There's only so much that two people can do to keep each other entertained, and when you're both there for everything that happens in each other's lives, it makes for some pretty boring dinner conversation.

One way that I suggest is to marry them. Then if you lose interest they leave with 65% of your net worth. This is known as "incentive."

My wife and I spend at least 1 night a week apart from each other. She goes back to her mom's house (equal distance from our house from work anyway) since her mom is by herself all the time. I get to do whatever I like that night... stay up as long as I want (since I don't have to wake up with her the next morning), etc. This also makes me miss her more when I do see her almost 2 days later. It's an awesome arrangement if you ask me. It's almost like not having a routine at all.
