*EDIT* - Pic

OK, I hooked up with a girl a couple of weeks ago. At the time, I figured it would be a one night stand since she lives pretty far away. I ended up getting her number the next morning and we hung out again the next evening (she left for home the following day).

After she left, I figured that would be it, and I had no intentions of making an attempt to keep in touch. However, she text messaged me after she got home and we've been text'ing ever since.

Here's the dilemma: I hate text messaging on my phone. Not only do I get charged for it, but it is a huge pain in my ass to type out thoughtful messages. I have a feeling that straight up calling her would make her uncomfortable, and I also think she may have a boyfriend (possibly live in).

I'm considering asking for her email address so I can actually use a keyboard to converse, but for some reason that seems less personal and a demotion from cell phone messaging. What do you guys think?

Cliffs:
1. Hooked up with a girl
2. Girl lives sorta far away
3. Girl apparently likes to text message
4. I don't like to text message and would prefer email
5. I feel like email might seem less personal

Keep calling it communication protocol and she'll end things soon enough, no more dilemma

if you're interested and what to keep talking, go to something you like better (email) or hell, call.

You think she has a boyfriend? You should probably find out

Never speak to her again if she does, it doesn't matter how hot she is. She's playing you, and you will be in for a world of hurt if you get involved with her. Once a lying cheating whore, always a lying cheating whore. Besides, you don't know where that thing's been if that's the case.

I'm not pursuing this as a relationship. Just merely trying to keep the doors open. I have friends that live near her hometown.

Agreed. And what's this "communications protocol" BS?

I'd suggest UDP. If you loose a message here or there, no big deal - and it makes you seem less desperate / clingy. Only transition over to TCP if you think she wants a dedicated connection to you, and you both can afford to tie up your resources.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was considering token ring, but maybe I'll reconsider.

I posted something on this a while back.. A relationship is, after all, much like TCP in that it's a mutual understanding that there's a connection between two endpoints. Even the process is similar:

SYN (Let's go out!)
SYN ACK (Let's go out? Ok, let's go out!)
ACK (We're going out! Woohoo!)

Once the connection/relationship has been successfully established, data can be transferred from one party in the connection to the other, much like the HTTP protocol:

The request:

GET / (I wanna get some!)

You can even try a different method. For example, go for the oral...

HEAD /

Possible responses:

200 OK (woohoo!)
403 Forbidden (boooooo!)
404 Not Found (Damn girl has no sex drive..)
500 Internal Server Error (that time of the month again, I guess..)

Sometimes you get fun responses:

206 Partial Content (she's a tease..)
302 Moved Temporarily ("This is my friend Suzy..." )

Note that we're not even going to talk about responses that contain the TCP push flag (PSH)...

As with all things, relationships end (as do TCP connections):

FIN ACK (We're breaking up...)
FIN ACK (Yep, we've broken up :( )

Sometimes breaking up isn't so graceful, like if she catches you cheating. If that happens, expect a TCP RST packet (along with divorce papers and/or a psychotic ex..)

Excellent expansion of the analogy.
