I like the .357 Sig a lot.

I have a Glock 22C, normally 40 cal, with a conversion Jarvis BBL to .357 Sig.

Both are great rounds, but I really like the Sig.

How would you compare the 40 SW to 357 Sig recoil?

Depends on what you'll be using it for. I wouldn't use a .44 for a carry gun, and I wouldn't use a .45 for hunting. If you're looking for something to blast targets with, go .45. If you're thinking of maybe trying to take a deer with a pistol, .44.

They're pretty similar, it's wierd, but the .357 Sig just feels right, the .40 is a compensated bbl, so it feels pretty good too, just not as good as the .357 sig.

Can't decide? Get both! That's what I did.

Besides, it was fun going to the range on Sunday with my Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum (8" barrel). I put the target out at 15 yards (the same distance the guy next to me was shooting) and he was all over the target with his $1200 Desert Eagle .50 AE while I was putting 4 out of 6 shots in the center ring easily. The S&W trigger on their fullsize revolvers is really nice. Very smooth and breaks clean. BTW-He was shooting at a full size silhouette target while I was shooting at a 25 yard slow fire pistol target. He was getting head sized groups (at best) while I was getting eye sized groups.

In my experience, most owners of Desert Eagles bought it because they have a lot of money, and they saw it in Snatch, or some other movie, and so they bought it. They dont really know much about guns, other than theirs makes a very loud "boom". There is a minority of owners who know what they are doing, and bought it for the novelty compared to the other guns they own.

The difference is mainly muzzle velocity. The bullet size and weight is very close between .45 ACP and .44 magnum but the .44 magnum bullet (1200-1300fps) is moving faster when it leaves the barrel than a .45 ACP round (900fps).

.45 Long Colt is the old cowboy round. It also is a relatively slow bullet. I've shot .45 long colt and .44 magnum and the magnum is much more powerful.

I dunno about .357 Sig. It is definitely a really accurate caliber and carries a lot of velocity, but the ammo is very expensive considering that +P+ 9mm ammo seems to be able to achieve similar results while still allowing for cheap trips to the range (thank you, Wal Mart!). I would not fire +P+ in just any pistol, but would have no fear of using it in my Glock.

I like the fact that you can usually fire .357 Sig and .40 S&W in the same gun by swapping the barrel, but I'm not sure I see these calibers as superior to 9mm and .45ACP, both of which are easier to find ammo for.

The thought of a tungsten round out of a .50BMG is scary. To say the least.

I think I've heard of 50 BMG bullets with DU.

DU > tungsten*

Yes, but is it commercially available?

I just thought of something... even if DU were commercially available, you wouldnt want to try and machine it yourself. DU dust is not something you want to inhale.
