YAGT: Mini-14 owners

I had one years ago, and remember liking it but I was too young and inexperienced to know if it was really all that great. What rifles (semi-auto) do you guys like that generally cost under $700? I plan on buying one for target, and plinking type stuff. I am also not a fan of the SKS otherwise I'd just pick one of those up and call it a day, but I remember the Mini-14 just being comfortable to me.

I'd recommend an AR clone instead. I have both. The AR shoots the same round, there's a zillion accessories for it.

I like the Mini-14 and the Mini-30. AR's are fine rifles also. The Mini-14 will be more acurate and easier to keep up for novice shooters though.

I don't have really anything to say here other than keep firing...we are really on the verge of the masses out of fear getting any guns worth defending yourself or feeding yourself banned.

Our country is too fear runned the last few decades. IMHO it's been found fear is much more profitable than anything else.

I hope you mean more accurate than the Mini-30, because a Mini-14 is not going to be anywhere near as accurate as any AR of similar condition.

I ran a few rounds through one about 26 years ago, and never had the need to do that again. BANG-rattle-clank!
It did not group well, even off sandbags and a rest. Goe with the AR suggestions above, IMO.

what kind of AR clones are the best? i prefer the look of an AR, but you don't buy a gun for aesthetics. oh and i just strictly shoot inanimate things, i'm not a killer, or a hunter. i just enjoy putting rounds into paper targets, or deceased refrigerators.

You don't need an assault rifle to hunt paper with.

What if the dead walk again? The Zombie Survival Guide suggests that a semi-auto rifle is one of the better choices, so as you don't 'rock and roll.'

Nothing wrong with doing it though...

Some people like to own firearms for recreation and an AR is a fun gun to shoot.

ARs will be more accurate. The Mini 14 uses the older M1 type action, harder to get to group reliably, no barrel choices. I'd stick with Stoner's invention.

I have a Mini-14, and I don't seem to have any problems with accuracy or reliability. Granted, if you want to mod/customize it, it shouldn't be your first choice, but if you just want a solid plinker without breaking the bank it is a good choice IMO. If you don't have to go new, they can be had regularly for under $500 in my part of the country. I actually picked mine up used at a local gun shop for $325 a couple of years ago.

I can see you've been brainwashed by the media. The Mini and AR are not assault rifles. They have no selective fire mode which is needed to be a real assault weapon.

Mini-14 is not that accurate. AR is a much better choice.
