The 1911 Commander is roughly the same size as the CZ P01, and it's thinner.

8 rounds though, and not as good as the full framed models. I actually contemplated buying a $3k version of this pistol though.

Hey thar P-01 fans, I wasn't intending to poop in anyone's cupcakes. Just relaying my own experience, which would keep me away from a polymer CZ. Like I said, though, the metal ones are tits, especially for the prices you can often find them used.

And I was wrong, it was this one that I spent some time shooting:

http://cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-75-sp-01-phantom/

The P-01 doesn't even appear to have a polymer model.

I still maintain that this is the 'CZ' that what-whats in my butt, though.

It says "Desert Eagle Pistol" in huge letters right on the side of that gun.

...just pretend it says 'Jericho 941.'

So is it as I expected? The 'Baby Eagle' is shunned because of the unfortunate naming assigned to the majority of those imported into this country?

It really is a nice pistol, guys. I swears it.:'(

What Ear and Eye protection do the more experienced shooters suggest for someone who is getting into shooting, but plans to do it regularly?

Go to Walmart. They have everything from $2 earplugs to $9 passive muffs to $60 active Peltor muffs. A bunch of eye protection too, cheap to expensive.

I bought a cheap pair of Winchester amber colored safety glasses and a set of active Caldwell electronic muffs; under $30 for everything.

I think they look good. And I agree the name Jericho sounds better than Baby Eagle.

The inexpensive foam plugs probably work best, although they are the least comfortable. Try both muffs and plugs. Neither are very expensive, unless you get the ones with electronics.

I have custom fitted silicone plugs, and while they are more comfortable, I still think foam is still better at noise reduction.

The nice thing about the foam ones is that you can buy a bunch of them and keep them everywhere e.g. gun case, ammo bag, tool box, etc, so you always have ear protection around. It sucks getting to the shooting range, only to have forgotten your ear protection.

I was looking at these: http://www.proears.com/Pro-Ears-Shooting-Hearing-Ear-Protection-Ultra-33

I'm pretty concerned with my ears, as much as my eyes.

I'd still get some foam ones also. Extra ear protection can come in handy if you want to take someone else to the range with you. You can wear both if you have sensitive ears or if you are shooting magnums.

They are cheap. $20 for 200 and they provide the same decibel reduction, 33 dB, as the best ear muffs. http://www.amazon.com/3M-E-A-Rsoft-Uncorded-Earplugs-Conservation/dp/B008MCUOH2

They even come in a flame pattern, http://www.amazon.com/3M-E-A-Rsoft-Uncorded-Earplugs-Conservation/dp/B008MCUKAS

Like I said, I have a nice pair, but I still keep cheap foam ones with all my gear.

I first bought a pair of muffs but they sometimes interfered when I tried to get a nice cheek weld on a gun. I then used regular foam plugs which were ok but now use Howard Leight QB2HYG banded earplugs. Works great for me. For the eyes I just use shooting glasses from Walmart (probably Winchester brand).

That's a great link! Thanks. I usually use Hearos when I go, but these have 33 db NRR and they are cheaper. I'll order them today.

Eye protection, just whatever, I have a couple pairs of glasses by Remington I believe. They're basically just to keep shell casings and ricochets from popping you in the eyeball so really anything that covers your eyes works.

For hearing I use and really recommend these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001T7QJ9O

I'd also get some basic foam plugs such as http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013A0C0Y because there will be times that you want/need to double up, as well as if friends shoot with you or something.

For glasses I just use a pair of cheapo amber safety glasses I bought from safetyglassesusa website. I think it was like $3 shipped for a pair.

QFT, this is a very subjective thing. Go with what's comfortable and carries the proper 'rating'

I tried using the electronic ear muffs, but it wasn't fully muting the gunshot. The delay was blowing my ear out... I switched after one magazine.
