I'm interested in getting a semi-auto handgun, maybe something like a .45 USP or maybe a S&W .40. Don't really wanna pay big retail dollars; don't even want to get a brand new gun since it'll probably cost me. Where's the best place to get something like that--gun show? online?

If gun show, how do you find out about shows happening near you?

If online, suggest a site. I recall a site posted here sometime that had tons of firearms for resale, from pistols to .50BMG sniper rifles.

TIA.

We have a .45 USP, and a S&W .40, along with 15+ other handguns. Pawn Shops are excellent places to go if you know a thing or two about value, quality, etc.

Uh, yes, I plan on being totally legal, so yes I would say I am concerned with serial numbers.

Where are you located?

Have you ever seen a commercial on tv for a gun show, they usually come around every other month, when they are in town you cant help but hear the dozens of commercials for the show, around here they have the gun show in the same facility the computer show uses.

In the DC area.

Don't really watch much TV, and what I do is PVRed and I skip through the commercials, so no commercials are seen.

LOL, sorry. I thought of that too when I wrote it, but was unconcerned with your dissapointment. No murder in this thread.

Are you in D.C. proper or VA/MD?

Handgun ownership is prohibited in D.C.

I've been to CEGunshow in Charlotte before and they had a pretty good selection of handguns. I would suggest going to your local gun shop and look first. Maybe a Springfield Armory XD in .40 S&W, they're excellent pistols and usually easy on the wallet.

Just making sure.

Gun shows are good because you can haggle with the dealers.

The large wholesalers can also be good if you have a local dealer that will do the transfer for a reasonable price, say $15-30.

Download CDNNs latest catalog, they usually have a pretty good slection of new and used guns. http://www.cdnninvestments.com/dowournewcat.html

You can also OCCASSIONALLY (it's getting harder imo) find a deal on gunbroker.com but you will also have to have a local licensed dealer that will accept it and then transfer it to you. I believe they have a list of them on there somewhere, but be sure to call them first and setup the terms just to be safe.

Edit - I think that's the right URL, won't get past our dern filter software... wonder why!

Is this so you can threaten the college kids into paying the cover at College Nights?
