YAGT: I think I may have gotten a date...

I've been talking with this girl I know for a while now via AIM. I knew her from school, so she's not a total stranger. Anyhow, today I decided to take the plunge and ask her out on a date, and she said yes.... I think. I'm not sure if she got the wrong idea and thinks we're just going as friends since I used the phrase, "hang out" or if she realizes I'm asking her on a real date. Basically, I asked her if she would be interested in hanging out sometime when she's free, to which she replied, "Sure, sounds good" and she gave me her number and told me to call. What should I expect out of the date? What are some signs that she likes me or just as a friend?

Sorry if this sounds like a MySpace blog post by a 12-year-old but I'm pretty excited.

Right on. Oh, and BTW....if you're together in close proximity it really doesn't matter what you call it. It's all about how you use the time.

Exactly. You have a chance, sir. Just be yourself but if you have the choice to be passive or aggressive... then be aggressive. And while you are at it, create those choices for yourself.

Just don't go overboard and you will be teh winnar.

I'm a really shy person and haven't had much experience in the dating scene... what "choices" are you talking about.

Atleast call her up or something just to talk to her. It will make talking to her easier. Don't make the time you hang out the first time you actually talk to her if you are that shy.

EDIT: Oh, and is that IM screen minimized in your desktop pic in your sig, you IMing her?

Like I said, I've talked to her in person numerous times before, talking isn't what makes me nervous.

The kids say "hanging out" these days instead of dating cause it leaves room open for date if it goes well, or just leave it as "hanging out" if it sucks.

"Hanging out" seems really informal. I call up girls (both single & already seeing someone) to "hang out" or "grab lunch" or "catch dinner" all the damn time and I never consider them "dates" of any sort (18-20 range).

lol, classic, though I don't think that's what was actually said. Close enough, though.

The way you phrased it makes it sound like a friends thing, I use that phrase when I just want to hang out with a girl nothing more.

Don't just hang at your house. Go do something. Minigolf followed by ice cream, or similar. Don't make it too fancy.

If you have to ask, then you're probably a dork around girls and she just likes you as a friend, if that...

I wouldn't say you're in the friends zone. People your age ask other people out like that. Things to look for: If she keeps constant eye contact with you. Asks you about your likes and dislikes. Ask her about hers as well. Ask about her goals. What she does in her free time. Really common things you do on a first date. If there are pauses or slight awkwardness during the date, it's not going to happen. There's no chemistry. You'll know if she likes you, guarantee it. Make sure you don't talk about yourself too much. Nothing worse than someone that's into themselves. She wants you to be interested in her.

Also, you'll know at the end of the night if there's going to be another date.

What are you guys doing for the first date?

Wrong. Watch a movie. If there are 2+ couches in the room wher eyou watch the movie, make sure you put a bunch of crap on one of them (blankets, books, videos, clothes, etc) so that you two have no choice but to sit with eachother. About 15-20 minutes into the movie....

GO FOR THE HAND

GO FOR THE HAND

GO FOR THE HAND

if you wait too long, you will totally screw it up. Just gotta be a man and do it. Once you hold her hand and she accepts, you can go ahead and kiss her.
