Dude, you're asking your GF to prom, you're not proposing to her. When you see her next, just say "by the way, prom is coming up... would you be interesting in coming with me?" or something simple like that.
 
How can you have a problem asking your girlfriend to prom? Granted the prom already occured (I wasn't the one who resurrected this) but its not like she's a stranger. I know nothing with women is implied, so you still have to ask them. But still, how good is/was your relationship if you needed to think about asking her to the prom? You call her up and be straight with her, hell you can even ask her if shes coming with you instead of actually asking her to go.

I wish I found this thread 2 months ago...
 
How I got asked to prom:

In car, talking to my then-bf:

Me: "Sophie doesn't have anyone to go with to prom. Maybe I'll go with her."
Him: "With SOPHIE?"
Me: "Yeah, NOBODY's asked me."
Him, sheepishly: "Oh. Would you go to prom with me?"
Me: "Yes."

Yeah, the girls like to be asked. It's kind of nice not to be taken for granted. Just ask her though, don't bother coming up with something too creative.
