YAGT: How much cheaper would gas be in NJ if it were self serve?

Would self-serve drop another 10-15 cents per gallon?
I know it's already lowest in the nation but who's going to argue against lower gas prices?
Why won't they let you pump your own gas in certain states? :|

And yeah, a lot of attendants would be out of jobs...

G in YAGT is for Gas, not Girl 😉

well.. divide the amount of gallons the extra pump jockey would pump by his/her wage.

say they do 10 cars @ 20Gal each, in an hour. $6/200 gallons = $0.03 per gallon. hardly a difference.

Knowing modern America, what they'll do is this:

1) They'll claim that they need to get rid of all the attendants to lower gas prices (even though they're already lower than everywhere else)

2) Then they'll raise gas prices.

3) Profit

What's funny is, I've seen pumps that have warning signs saying prolonged exposure to gasoline fumes has caused cancer in laboratory rats, and yet we require people to spend hours every day breathing gasoline fumes.

no self serve gas in the whole state of nj? I didnt think there was a full service station still left in the u.s.a .

Stop bitching your gas is cheaper than anything they have in Europe

Places I've lived that had both would charge a few cents per litre more, which would be probably a dime a gallon, so yeah it can add up. That seems like the station would make quite a bit doing that though...

I think if you're willingly paying somebody to fill your gas (in states where it's law, basically everyone should die), then you should die.

i'd gladly tkae your mass transit system in exchange.

I don't live in Europe, I live in NJ... but we do have the largest state-wide mass transit system in the country actually. My point was, everyone is paying more than they'd LIKE to for gas. He wasn't even complaining, he was asking a question.

And I believe our gas prices are lower partly because our gas tax is lower. The money we miss out on from lower gas taxes has to come from somwhere, and NJ (like CT) gets a lot less money from the federal government than we give to it, so that money is coming directly from the pockets of NJ taxpayers. We're still paying it, just in a different form.

Yeah, we do have three toll roads. And I'm glad I never have to drive on any of them. 🙂

probably wouldn't be any cheaper. the station owners would just be making more money.

I've never understood the full-service hate. we pay less and don't have to tip the gas station attendant. 😕

I liked it until I moved to PA and I realized how annoying it is to have to sit there and wait while the attendant comes over and then sit there and wait for him to come back when the gas is done pumping...

Almost no difference. I don't think that getting rid of the gas attendants here in Oregon will do anything to lower the price of gas, I just want to get rid of them because I'm sick of the rude bastards and want to pump my own gas. Up until just a few years ago, the gas attendants were polite and cool and would even wash your windshield if you got a full tank. Now, they tend to be rude lazy punks who like to keep you waiting and won't even screw your gas cap back on half the time.

your gas stations suck 😉

can't say that I've ever had to wait more than a minute after pulling up to the tank.

And then another minute after the pump has stopped.
And then another minute to run your credit card...or worse, they are set up for pay-at-the-pump and they just stick your card in the slot just like you could have done yourself.
