I've met two people through online means... one was crazy and controlling, the other is absolutely awesome and I still talk to her today. I did notice how crazy/controlling the one chick was, but she said she changed... unfortunately, I actually believed it. Best part was, when I told her what I thought of her personality, she completely flipped out on me, which just proved me right...
In short, no it's not always bad, so give them a shot. The warning signs to look out for when it comes to fake MySpace profiles:
* 1 small photo... it may also be fuzzy
* Very little information actually on the page.
You really can't take the page's looks into account, because it's not that hard to just go to some website and get a layout quickly. Also, be a little wary about friend requests without messages. Personally, I usually message people who send me friend requests like that. If they seem like normal people in my area that I've just never met, I don't mind adding them and conversing with them.

Ditto.
I'm not on it a ton anymore since it's blocked at work (now), but it's a good way to keep in touch with my friends, and a good place to meet girls if that's what you want to use it for.

Ehh, Whooz, I think it's quite a bit weirder and more of an betrayal of trust than anything else. That is, unless the pictures are readily available in a MySpace or something (i.e. not a private profile either), which you should then just link to that. Since this is a thread about meeting someone on MySpace, posting a link to said person's MySpace is probably just the best way to handle it.
I have no opinion on meeting the girl from MySpace. I just enjoyed the "like the fist of an angry god" part.
I think posting pics of someone and asking a question are two very different things. I most certainly was not whimpering. Just seeing what other people have/would do.
