Man some of the advice here is priceless.....

For those who can and have successfully picked up women in bars/clubs you'll know that the 3-day rule is complete garbage. You call her in 3 days and she'll have forgotten all about you. You call the next day, and even then you will still have to build the attraction all over again as she was most likely drunk when you talked to her. A number is just that, a number, and girls give them out a dime a dozen.

Anyway. You get a number and nothing is said about calling, it's best to wait a few days.

If she asks you to call on a day and you don't you are already letting her down. It's one thing to keep her guessing, another to just go against what another says.

If you want to have the upper hand (games...I don't care for them), call her, but let her know you are heading out. Don't give more details than just a general description (play pool, see a movie, hanging with some buds, etc)...she shouldn't even ask more than 'watcha doing'. If she starts in with 'are there going to be girls there'...probably time to forget her number.

It's the perfect chance then to set a date, 'hey can't see you/talk to you tonight, but do you have some time to go for drinks/dinner/lunch/etc later this week/next week.'

that should be all it takes. You don't want to play on the phone or IM too long as it just builds up false pretenses on the relationship (I use relationship from just F'Me buddy to the limit). Physical attraction and body language are probably one of the largest parts of keeping a relationship going...on the phone/PC each person is dreaming of someone that does everything perfect and forgets all the blemishes and idiosyncrasies.
