You don't have to put in the plug if you are shooting trap though.

Get the Stoeger 2000 http://www.stoegerindustries.c...stoeger_model_2000.php which is semi-auto and has the inertia driven tech like the expensive Benellis. The black synthetic is $479.

But if your also going to use it for defense there is nothing like a shot gun being racked to send a shiver down the bad guys spine! :D

Like most people have suggested, an 870 is a good one. If you're doing a lot of sporting clay meets then I would suggest a good over-and-under. I agree though, they are a LOT of fun but it's definitely an expensive hobby lol.
