I don't know...maybe you should just hang out a few times.

Honestly, my current girlfriend of a couple of years was 17 when I turned 21. Not a huge difference. She's 18 now and we're happily in love, however she is a rare breed in her maturity. Of course, in my state, the statutory laws are 5 years if age 16-18...so legality wasn't an issue if sex was involved.

I'm 41 so some miles behind me.
Don't worry that she is 17 date her anyway you will kick yourself if you don't.
Life means you could be dead tomorrow so don't pursue life without living.

Just don't expect this to be marriage, my problem when I was your age was I expected every fling to be the 'one' and approached it with that focus. DON'T. Just go out have some fun see where it takes you.

Honestly, that is a large age difference at that stage in a persons life.
4 years may not seem like a large gap, but for a teenager/young 20something, it is... even if the girl is mature.
Give it a whirl if you want.
I would not though, personally

She may be mature for a high schooler, but she will change when she gets to college. That said, as long as you arn't looking for action (what guy isn't?), you could have a good time with her.

Edit: if the age of consent laws pass you, see my sig. It may be the only good advice freedomsbeat212 has ever given =)

NOPE!!!... Girls at that age, no matter how mature they appear to bre need time to grow. Seriously, stay away. If you really like the girl, tell her and hang out with her, but give her some time to mature a bit.

Depends on if she goes for guys that were seriously contemplating having their ears surgically altered so they looked like an elf.

no way dude. Unless she was like a perfect 10 in personality, brains, body the whole deal. Then I would still keep it on the burner till she was finished with high school dating a girl in HS is jsut creepy.

Am I the only one that lives in Texas? 17 is legal in Texas.

I had a roommate who was 23 and dated a girl that was 18. It worked ok for a year or so, but then he's wanting to settle down and she's starting through her crazy college years. It was a pretty bad break-up.

EDIT: Nevermind, I looked it up.

The age of consent in Texas is considered to be 17 years of age, however,
until the minor turns 18, he or she can only have sexual relations with
someone 2 years older.

Yes. But keep it very "friends only" until she is 18

if u can hold it out till she's 18, then go ahead. but dont expect it to last or anything. i can see it turning out that u wine and dine her now until she turns 18. Then she turns 18, goes to college and dumps you for someone her age.

There are exceptions, I guess.

IMO that's the only problem... your schedules, both work and social...

the age difference is null

legal vs not legal?
Tell the judge that she is mature for her age. Yeah, that'll keep you out of jail...

What's the big deal? If you like her, go for it. Just don't assume it is going to last forever. Maybe she will do the crazy college girl thing, maybe she wont. Not every girl goes through a slut phase. Also... it's 4 years!! Extremely minor difference compared to thousands of fantastic long term relationships. If you are worried about the age of consent thing, take it slow or wait until she's 18. If her parents are ok-ish with it, then I don't see what the big deal is.

When I was 21, I dated a 17 year old. Granted, she had graduated High School and she turned 18 a month after we started dating.

when i was 28, i dated 17 y.o. :)

...for very brief period of time

no, I didn't do anything that would put me behind the bars, I was willing to wait few months.

Why did I do it? Her ex of 1yr was 32. Of course, now looking at it, it wasn't good idea and bound to not work.

It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with periods of life. You are just exiting your college career. and she will be just starting. Wait till she graduates College. If she even plans to go. It will make thing less complicated. It will also give her some "life" experience.

If by then you two are both available, then procede with a relationship.

My GF is 7 years younger.
