YaGT: 22LR rifle, LOL

I have so much fun shooting my buckmark, I wanted to try out a .22lr rifle. I was thinking about buying a cheap ruger 10/22. But then said screw it, i'll just buy this magnum research magnum lite. Anyways, definitely last gun for a long time. I need the cash for car stuff.

I still have yet to take it to the range, maybe this weekend

It's hard to beat the Ruger 10/22 for cheap plinking fun. I have a 4x scope on mine.

I let a friend of mine borrow it a few weeks ago to go shooting with his son. He asked me about the recoil, I laughed and said there isn't any. You could put the butt of the stock against your man sausage and pull the trigger and not feel it.

i've never thought of doing that. well i get in trouble at the range if I try that?

Just say you're practicing to be a cop. 🙂
(someone help me out and link to the gif of the movie with the cop firing his gun from his crotch por favor)

so I zero'd the rifle yesterday @ 25 yards with big 5 bulk ammo. I need to go to an outdoor range to see how far I can go

I have a Model 60, love it to death. It was made awhile ago since I got it from my grandmother and it still is dead accurate and reliable.

Marlin 60: if you just want to shoot instead of constantly tweaking and upgrading your gun. But, I still have a replacement stock and peep sights on mine. 🙂

I'd probably keep my zero around 50 to 75 yards just due to the for shit ballistics on the .22. My thoughts on it.

Zeroing a .22 for 25 yards is usually best. IIRC, with a 25 yard zero you are

about 1" high at point blank range
dead on at 25 yd
about 1" low at 50 yd
dead on at 75 yd
about 1" high at 100 yd

After 100 yds the .22 drops pretty fast.

When I ran the ballistics through the Sierra calculator if I remember right 66 yards gave me 1" high 0 to 66 yards and ended up 1" low around 80 or 90.

But honestly I'd have to re-run the ballistics, I just cant remember. I do remember 66 yards was my sweet spot for the trajectory I was looking for.

ETA:

The only thing I can find right off is this. I do have a kick ass .22LR ammo comparison file at home somewhere though.

You could find a used .22 pretty much at any gunshop, I would imagine. It's not like they are expensive to begin with though, for basic models at least. Sure, you can spend several hundred plus but you're starting to get into competition models or speciailized models or paying for the "cool" factor.

I love my Savage Mark 2 BTV (Bolt action) - It's a target rifle and run about $350 but got mine on sale for $300

Ruger 10/22 (semi-auto) is also fun and has tons of factory variations at varying costs as well as tons of aftermarket parts and accessories. You should be able to get a base 10/22 for under $200

I also have a Henry Golden Boy lever action that is fun as well.

Seriously, though, any .22 is going to be fun to shoot

.22 rifles are silly cheap. I picked up a new Browning Buckmark pistol for somewhere around $250. Ruger 10/22's are equally inexpensive. You can almost buy a nice 22 for what you would spend on a middle of the road graphics card.

now .22 revolvers, for some reason those bastards are silly expensive.

S&W 617 = $660
Even a Taurus .22 revolver is $400.

yeah you can get cheap ones. the kid next door (err 23 yrs old) has one he picked up for $99. it feels really fucking cheap. also it never seems to fire in the same spot twice.
