.357 Mag Desert Eagle?:D

On a serious note I'm looking towards a Sig P228 9mm or P229 .40 in the future.

Those are probably my favorite DA/SA pistols, though as a general matter I think DA/SA pistols are a bad idea.

Granted that's online (and for Wolf ammo)..but it's not a drastic price difference.

I don't shoot Wolf. Again, you can get 100 rounds of quality Winchester 9mm ammo for less than $11. The Wolf you cited is almost 50% more expensive. Show me how to beat the Wal-Mart 9mm deal with .40 and I'll be impressed.

When I buy a handgun, then I'll spend more than a few seconds looking.. :p

Meh. I shot many M9s when I was in the Air Force. Personally I don't like the design. The exposed barrel is an invitation to fouling, they're way too big and heavy for a 15-round 9mm pistol, and they are surprisingly fragile for such a beefy design. You'd have a hard time convincing me to pay the $100 - 150 premium over a Glock 17, which I prefer in nearly every way. If I were going for a DA/SA pistol, I'd either save my money and get a CZ, or spend a few more bucks and invest in a Sig.

I recently bought a Smith & Wesson M&P .40 and love it. It's in your price range and I like it better than my Glock and my H&K!!!

i'm still fvcking waiting on a Bersa Thunder. I can't believe those things are that popular.

I may have to end up spending more than i want on it to get one. its been liek 2 months or so now since i told my uncle to get one for me (he runs a gun repair shop and sells guns also).

$250 + s/h & FFL

my uncle can get me a brand new one for $165 if they ever get them in stock and my uncle can grab one. i guess the problem is this place won't take backorders and seems to do 1st come 1st serve so if he doesn't grab one right as they come in, he loses out.

i've seen them on gunsamerica.com i think it is for about $195. Its not like i really NEED the gun right away or anything (and considering i'm kind of stuck getting my concealed carry permit because i can only come up with one reference. i need to call them and ask if there's a way around that) but it would be nice to have it.

Wow..if I could get one for $165, I'd probably buy one too. :)

What state are you in that you need references for CC? I paid $10 to the PD and had it in hand 14 days later.. :p

I live in PA. I need 2 references of people that live in my county, are not related to me, and don't live in the same household. I only know of 1 person in my county that isn't related to me that i could use a good reference.

If you want a 9mm, go with the Springfield XD-9. You can get them for ~$400ish these days.

My Dad has an SW99 in 45ACP (same as the p99). I don't like the trigger at all. It's way way too long.

Personally, I'm a 45ACP man myself. Reload all my own ammo, so it's not all that expensive.

The only problem is Winchester is going out of business, and your ammo wont be around for long. Even so, the difference for a box (.40 vs 9mm) at walmart is 1 dollar.

Reload your own, like i do, theres where your real savings come in.

.40 range ammo is a lot more expensive than 9mm. You can get 100 rounds of 9mm Winchester FMJ at Wal-Mart for $10.95.

Honestly as far as I'm concerned .40 S&W, 10mm, and .357 Sig are answers to a question that should never have been asked. I understand the desire for a more powerful round than 9mm, but .45 ACP is ballistically more desirable than any of them in many respects, and I don't find it materially harder to shoot. To me 9mm is the best one-pistol caliber, since it is acceptable for self-defense and cheap to shoot, but .45 ACP is the best all-around self-defense round.

Actually there have been some recent(last 5 years) studies that have concluded that the .40 is actually a much better round for stopping power than the .45 These are all based on police shootings BTW. The reason cited in these studies is that .45 tends to over pentrated and have an exit wound, which while deadly eventually doesn't provide stopping power. This is because any force from the bullet lost out the back of the body is lost and not transferred into the body. Whereas a .40 is less likely to overpentrate. But in 5 more years they will probably come out with another study saying something completely different.

As for the handgun choice since everyone seems to be missing the left handed thing, I would vote for an HK or some kind, either the USPC or the 2000. I prefere the 2000 because it is DAO.

That is what I was thinking.

The only pistols I know of that have fully ambi controls are the HK P2000, the Walther P88, the CZ 85B, and the S&W M&P (iirc).

Actually the USPs come in a variety of configurations and all have the option of being left handed and in several firing options.

I know the USPs can be switched, I was just focusing on pistols will full ambi controls.

Well, we shall see if Wal-Mart comes up with a similar deal on some other range ammo.

I can't imagine ever bothering to reload. My time is much more valuable to me that what I'd stand to save (I don't mean to be disrespectful - my dad used to reload when I was a kid), and it seems like a colossal hassle for the relatively small savings. I can understand it might be worthwhile if you were shooting a ton, but I shoot at most maybe 2500-3000 rounds a year.
