the gym has two leg curl machines. one is an icarian with a roller pad on the foot thing, the other has a fixed pad that tears the hell out of my hirsute calves.

skinny asian chick finished her set on the icarian and just sat back down on the pad. I said "do you mind if I work in?"

"I only have one more set."

"Well ok, I'd still like to work in if you don't mind."

"Why don't you use that one?" she points to the torture device next door.

"I prefer this one."

She gets all huffy, picks up her towel, and goes to the other machine. I'm like "I'm sorry, you don't have to move." and no response. goddam I hate stupid rude people.

'work in' means share, you do a set and let the other person do a set cuz most likely you aren't going to use it in between sets.

actually you know what really irks me, is when people bogart the dumbells

Doesn't your gym have enough to go around?

I'll ask to "work in" with somebody using a piece of equipment if it means we don't have to radically change the settings of the seat and such (the weights are no trouble adjusting) that usually means I won't bother asking when women are using it or some little guy. I'm usually not in a big ass hurry soo I will wait or go to another station.

Now, I don't get why the people ask to work in, not like I sit there for a while in between the sets. 30 seconds tops....

I had the same problem at my gym. I was using the machine and I saw an Asian woman waiting to use it. So in between my sets I let her sit down on it. After she finished her set she just sat there resting. Here's the conversation:

"Could I work back in, I need to get back on it."

"No. 7 set left"

"Yeah, but you're just sitting there"

"I have 7 set. 7 set."

"I let you work in because I'm nice. Now get the fvck off my machine"

She just walked away pissed off, stomping her feet. Some people don't understand manners, and when they irritate me I'll lay it on them harshly.

u know what really pisses my off is people who work out with the dumbbells right in front of were the rack is. They stand one foot away and do curls and stuff, blocking my way to the other dumbbells and what not, pisses me off bad

Let me translate what went down for you, since you obviously didn't pick up on it

You say: "do you mind if I work in?"
She hears: "Do you mind if I butt in?"

She says: "I only have one more set."
She means: Don't bother, I'll be done in 2 minutes. There's another unused machine if you're in a rush

You say: "Well ok, I'd still like to work in if you don't mind."
She hears: "I want this machine and I want it now"

she says: "Why don't you use that one?"
she means: "Wait your turn or go to the unused machine, asshole"

You say: "I prefer this one."
She hears: "Fvck off, I want this machine; now MOVE"

You say: "I'm sorry, you don't have to move."
She hears: nothing, she's not listening anymore
