I know you guys seem to like the Springfield XD pistols. Does anyone own a sub-compact model? in 9mm to be exact.

Looking at maybe selling my Bersa Thunder .380 and picking up one of these. I need to find a place that has one so I can check it out and make sure it fits well in my hand.

I've handled one in a gun shop, but never fired it. Seems ok to me. Its definetly a concealed-carry weapon. And I wouldn't get it in .40 caliber, that'd be too much for the size.

XDTalk - for all your Springfield XD needs. ;)

After I got my XD 9mm two weeks ago I've been going to that forum several times a day. Great place and you ALWAYS get answers to your questions. It's like AT for XD owners. ;)

yes, they do.

my dad has a normal sized one and i was looking at it today. seems like a really nice gun. felt comfortable in my hand and seemed pretty well balanced.

i just wonder how much smaller the grip is compared to the larger size?

The XD website says for the sub-compact 9mm is 4.75" w/compact mag and 5.5" w/extended mag.

The Service 9mm (4" model) is 5.5" height.

I owned one last week, I sold it already.

Its a decent gun, if you hate Glocks you will love the XD.

I don't know about the XD but if it is similar in size to the mini glocks I did not like it. I had a glock 27, the mini .40 and the grip was just too small, and I have small hands.

Yeah, I left it on the hood of my car and a mysterious stranger deposited $450 into my bank account.

I bought it cheap and decided to flip it. The XD is a neat gun.

It's also a very accurate gun... I went to the range last week for the 3rd time with my XD and focused on a slow, steady trigger pull... all day I shot groups from 10 yards like this.

I didn't think that was too bad for my 3rd time with the XD and 7th time shooting a handgun overall. ;)

Nice group. I'm thinking of picking up something similar now that my car is paid off. But I'm also drooling over an M4 Carbine and HK416...sigh...

damn! nice!

btw where did you get those targets or are they available at the range? I'd like to get some like that but haven't seen them anywhere. I guess I would have to order from an online retailer.

Pick up a copy of Shotgun News. They have all sorts of targets along those lines. I have some that have a masked mugger on them instead of just a silhouette. Mine also have the vital organs overlaid onto the target in such a fashion that you can't see them at range, but once you collect your target to check your hits you will be able to see which ones you hit.

If you have large hands, you may not like the sub-compact.

I have the XD .45 Tactical model, with the standard sized grip. However, I did hold the 9mm subcompact. It wasn't bad feeling at all, but the grip is pretty short. I think you can change the cap on the bottom of the mag and put one with a finger grip on it like this.

I believe there are different magazines for it, depending on which grip size you want. Don't know if the magazines actually have parts you can change.

NRA B29 targets are readily available at any good gun store.

I stopped at a gun shop last night to see if they had either the compact or subcompact in stock.

Fortunately, they did. the compact and even sub-compact was large. It's bigger than my Bersa Thunder, especially thicker. I'd say its the same thickness as the regular models but with a shorter barrel and shorter grip.

The grip was a bit shorter than the regular models too. My Bersa Thunder has about the same length of grip but the magazine has sort of an extension to it to make it longer. As others said, I could get an extension for the mag on the XD, but the size is kind of turning me off.

Remember! No spare parts for XD pistols. Gotta send back to the factory for all warranty work.
