YAFBT: Barry Zito just dropped in my league

Spooner

Lifer
Worth a pickup?

I'm undecided if he is even worth being on a fantasy team. Big name, big contract, but AWFUL stats the for over a year

He's gonna win 10 games at best this year w/ a 5+ ERA. Fuck him. Cain's 10x better than him. But of course we know if you're good, you're gonna get traded.

Depends on the categories your league has, but he's going to have a high ERA, WHIP and a low K/9. On a Giants team with practically no offense? No thanks!

that's the other thing. I have Cain already, not really interested in picking up another Giant pitcher.

however this guy used to be awesome....

He has no run support, his velocity has dropped too. His ERA last year went up even though he went from the AL to the NL and he moved into a pitcher's park. Stay Away!!

Yes, but he was never an overpowering pitcher. It's his fantastic breaking ball that he had success with. I think he'll have a strong 2nd half. He's never been a good first half pitcher.

He's awful, far away from his 20 win season. Hitters have figured out his curve or can simply wait for his 80 mph "fastball".

He had a nice fastball that set up his curve really well--but these days he's lucky to hit 90 on the radar which pretty much makes everything else of his weak.

I like the giants, and I even sorta like zito (not as a player) but there are two possibilities

1) This is the realistic one - He will stay in the low 80's, have to adapt to being a junkballer, but his ERA will go up while wins and strike outs go down.
2) He by a miracle, becomes good again. Fastball back to mid to high 80's, breaking stuff is excellent again and he becomes a monster.

Regardless of those two things, he's playing on a team with molina batting cleanup and an average age of like 80. He won't get run support and I doubt even much in terms of defensive assistance.

1 is probably what will happen, and even if 2 happens no one will look down on you for not picking him up. I'd try to find someone else if you need someone. I wouldn't get him unless you are trying to fill a bench spot as a "just in case he heats up".

zito should've pitched for mets instead.

lots of Giants fans are wishing the same thing.

i'm a mets fan and i was disappointed that he went for giants instead because of money.

Be glad that he took the money.

Ain't that the truth. That hipster doofus is awful.

So it seems like this saturday its Santana vs Sheets. I'm sure fantasy owners of these two will be paying attention.

I wouldn't touch Zito with a 100 foot pole in any fantasy league. Is he still tinkering with his delivery??

during spring training he did. I think he doesn't raise his arms above his head anymore...
