YAET (Yet another Ebay thread) - stupid bidder...

I put an item up for auction last week with a reserve price. The high bid was less than the reserve price (about $80 less than the reserve).

A few hours after the auction ended I get an email from the high bidder, wanting to know where to send his payment. So I replied and told him that he didn't win because his bid was less than the reserve.

Today I got a reply back from him -- now he's pissed off and still thinks I should sell the item to him. He also called me this evening (I didn't return his call yet and don't plan to).

What should I do with this a$$hat?

Tell him to read the user's agreement and associated rules & terminology.

Give him a link to a book on how to win ebay auctions.

Be polite about it though... everyone's new at some time...
(but then again.... you're still an idiot if you can't look up "reserve price" and can't figure out what the buyer meant.)

Why even bother with reserve prices? They're so annoying. Just place the item at what you want to sell it at. No fuss and no annoyed bidders.

I don't really deal with eBay, but wouldn't that defeat the idea of an 'auction'?

has he stated why he feels you should still sell the item to him?

From his last email (after I first told him his bid was less than the reserve)
>what are you talking about ?
because you did not have that in the acution and i won the bid with ebay rules i should get it.
and yes, after the auction ended, right next to the bid amount, in big RED letters, it said "reserve not yet met".

I hate the emails that go like this when you specifically say in your auction that it's for US only:

"HELLO I AM HAPPY I HAVE WON YOUR AUCTION I AM PREPARED TO PAY USING A CREDIT CARD PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO PROCEED TO PAY YOU USING IT AND PLEASE TELL ME HOW MUCH SHIPPING IS TO INDONESIA. I AM A VERY HONEST PERSON AND NOT AT ALL SKETCHY EVEN THOUGH I HAVE 0 FEEDBACK."

Just send him the link to the auction.

It's not like it matters, he can't leave you negative feedback or anything.
