YAET: Scam auction

So this auction reeks of scam. However, the seller has over 200 feedback at 100%. They were all from sellers, though. This is his first time selling. Also see his other items for sale. He's got quite a load. On top of that, he accepts payment in GBP even though it says he's from America. Also he insists on only contacting him through the email address displayed in the description...

Why would a person of good feedback suddenly turn bad?

Stolen account.

Change your eBay password from your e-mail password. i.e. don;t use the same password at everysite

The auction itself is kind of interesting.

The high bidder is "do_not_big_scam" and the sellers feedback has two positive evals from someone who won auctions (that the person who stole the account put up) saying it was a stolen account.

I emailed him and he said that he only takes money order. He also insisted that I send it to an "escrow" service...

Ask him if escrow.com is okay. 🙂

What's really sad is that it takes people outside ebay to help defend everyone else against scammers. Ebay is sooooooooo slow at shutting down scammers - as long as they're making their money, why should they care.

Wow, now that I think about it, why doesn't ebay have something like a "report this auction as a scam" button? So many forums have buttons to "report this thread to a mod." But, ebay can't be bothered with fighting fraud??

Because there would be arse wipe teenagers who would go through and hit it on all the actutions that they can find just to "Stick it to the man" wasting the time of the people actually investigating Scams even more.

If the procedure was a little more complicated, then it might work, but just a quick button could be too easilly abused.

Funny how the fake bidders have the respect to leave positive feedback, along with a warning message.

Well they don't want to trash a guy's rep just because the account was stolen, since he might get it back.
