First of all guy pays with personal check even though auction says PayPal/MO. Second it takes him ~10 days to get payment out, but I'll give him credit that when he finally does he drops $14 for Express overnite to get it to me.

Deposited the check Saturday, it will probably be posted to my account after 2 tomorrow, but IIRC that doesn't mean the check has cleared his bank. It's under $100 but he's zero feedback and hasn't been the most lovely buyer so far.

How long should I wait before I send his item?

oh well since you said Paypall only and was stupid enough to take the check. i would call the bank its written on and make sure it will clear. while they wont tell you how much he has in the bank they will say if it will clear or not.

But if it was me i would send back the check and tell them to get me a money order or send cash.

I really don't care so long as it clears, it's his package that I'm holding on to and besides I avoid paypal fees. So as long as it clears I really couldn't care less.

hold it until the check clears :)

Contact the bank ahead of time though, before you deposit the check. They'll tell you if the check will clear or bounce. If you deposit it and the check bounces, you'll have a fee tacked onto your account which you'll have to go to the trouble of retrieving from the other party. (oftentimes a pita, especially if they're from another state)
