YAET: Dutch auction question...

Ok, I bid on some velcro tape. The guy had it listed at 1$/foot, with 75 feet listed. To buy more than 1 foot, you enter the quantity you want, in feet.

Well, when I came to the auction.. someone had already bought 12 feet, someone bought 15 feet, and someone bought 47 feet. That leaves 1 foot left.

So I entered a bid of $1.25 and entered 10 feet. It accepted my bid, and it says I won 10 feet. But for some reason it says the final price is $1.00, and that is what it charged me when I automatically paid with PayPal.. even though my "item price" is $1.25.

So my question is this.. since the guy obviously only has 75 feet, and all the orders total 84 feet.. what is he going to do?

It says everybody has paid, but I don't understand how that can be since we went over his quantity.

Are all dutch auctions like this, is it just left up to the auctioneer to fix the problems? I can't imagine that this can potentially happen with every dutch auction, it would be a nightmare?

Ooh.

*adjusts 1" thick spectacles*;)

I didn't see that before. Ok... so does it mean the last bidder on the list chronologically, or the last bidder on the list from top to bottom? :p

Why don't you e-mail the seller & find out what he intends to do?

I did.. Just no response yet, so I figured I'd ask here while waiting. ;) It seemed silly to me, that you could bid over the quantity.. and even with the disclaimer at the bottom, it seems confusing.

I had never done a dutch auction with more than 1 item before, so I dunno..

Higher bidders first, so you'll get your 10@$1.00/foot no matter what.
Since the other three guys all bid $1.00, it's first come first serve for them until quantity runs out.

You're only paying $1.00/foot b/c in a dutch auction everyone pays the same price. You pay the lowest amount that still wins, in this case it's $1.00/foot.
