So, I recently sold an Xbox 360 plus games on eBay. In all my 120 transactions, I've never had a single person back out, or even a problem.

Today I get an email from him asking if he can back out. He's already paid, but he's had a family emergency and needs the money. Says he'll have to take a loan out if I don't refund him the money.

Before he sent this email, I started the process of withdrawing the money from paypal, because I have no need for the money to be in there once the transaction is finished.

Should I hold him to it? Or refund the money? For obvious reasons I'd prefer to just keep the money and send him his xbox, but... who knows.

If the price is right, hold back any fees incurred and do a second chance to the next guy in line.

hard call, but I find tons claim deaths and all sorts of crap to get out of sales...I'd make sure he didn't win multiple auctions.

if you can afford to do so, do so (less fees). if you can't, then too bad for him.

agree

There is a big difference in someone using their last dime to buy a 'toy' vs getting hit with a financially devastating situation.

Most of us could probably come up with $300 or so for a console anyday of the week. However, if someone in your immediate family drops dead; how many of us have $10-20k to bury them easily accessable.

If he payed you by paypal make sure if you refund him to use the "refund payment" on the paypal site, just don't paypal him back.

You'll get the paypal fee back.

Do you know how to check to see if he has won multiple auctions?

Thanks very much Alkemyst. I've found that he won an auction the same day for the exact same thing.

$510.

Probably found a better deal.

You should have just sent him the XBox.

Report him to eBay nonetheless, leave feedback that tells what happened to warn other sellers that it might be habit.

edit: Just read that he DID find another one. Report his ass to Paypal, Ebay, etc.

What an ass. Guy deserves a negative for sure. Make sure you do everything by the book with regard to Paypal so he can't reverse the charge.

I am, I'm shipping to a confirmed address with delivery confirmation & insurance. There isn't anything he can do.

Cool, unfortunately some people have multiple accounts and you can't always tell. Ebay allows one buying and one selling account if you'd like...but their TOS state they can't be used concurrently to shill bid or in conspiracy.

now waiting for my fanclub to find this post and start their little bleeding hearts about how maybe this guy is really just broke and should be let off the auction and somehow I am just oppressing the poor.

I would have refunded him either way. Less the ebay/paypal fees of course.

You are just putting yourself in more sh1t because the guy is going to have two Xbox's. The problem that he insisted to start.

You must have more free time than many of us. Also relisted items usually don't do as well as the original...people think there must be something wrong with it that the last buyer found out about prior to shipping.

It's not the seller's fault the guy bid on two items...he could have wanted two. However; by doing so he now affected the pricing of the item.

Maybe if he has to deal with reselling one of the Xboxes, he'll learn how to use eBay properly.
