I'm in a somewhat odd situation with an item I got off Ebay and was wondering what advice you guys might have.

I bought a guitar a few weeks ago and the seller shipped it the day after memorial day. Because I still have not gotten it, I asked him what's up and it turns out that he mailed the guitar to my school address. I'm still not sure how this happened since my Paypal payment receipt clearly indicates my home address. I assume he must have gotten the address off my profile instead of using the one I sent him.

So my question is, since I'm not willing to wait until August to get my guitar, is he obliged to pay the shipping to my house since it clearly was a mistake on his part? And if he refuses, are there any steps I can take?

Thanks for all replies.

Well, both addresses are connected to both accounts. In theory, when I relocate, I change the primary address on both. But since this happened right at the end of school, it's quite possible the switch had happened yet.

Your fault for not clearly stating where to send it. See if he will pay the extra 20 bucks to reship it, but offer to pay half if he starts getting grumpy.

Here's what I'd do - I'd contact him, say that although you clearly specified your home address as the shipping address in the Paypal receipt, you can see how this mistake could have been made. And then I'd offer to split the cost of re-shipping with him.

You can play hardball and demand he cover the whole thing, but I would take an approach that would be likely to get him to work it out with you quickly so you can get your guitar.
