A great band back in my old college town had a blown tire on the way from a gig in NY back to Florida -- killed two members.

After the accident, I got to know one of the surviving band members a little bit, and I knew the brother of one of the guys who died.

They were an awesome band. One of their CDs is still on my list of top 20 favorite albums.

Had a blow out going about 85mph on my front right tire while surrounded by cars, a piece of sheet metal was on the road and got kicked up by a car in the lane next to me and went flying like a sword into the sidewall of my tire and sliced it wide open.

Luckily there was no one to my left for that split second I had to react and was able to just over two lanes and then into the emergency lane without crashing or flipping my at the time '95 Chevy Blazer.

I was shaking after I came to a stop, thought for sure I was going to have a wreck.

Not yet.
I've been a few cars back from an oversize truck (well, we call them lorries or artics) when it had a tyre blow. It was the most enormous bang I've ever heard (and I've been around when my father's playing with C4 in the ATC), complete with bits of rubber raining down all over the motorway (freeway/highway), and a huge cloud of dust. Thankfully, most people were paying attention, but it's scarier still to have to brake quickly, but being mindful that people behind you may not be able to stop.

Yes. Violent blowout of the inside front tire while going around a 90 degree corner pretty hot, probably 40 mph.

It tugged a little on the wheel (not much) and really didn't affect the car that much. Was pretty easy to slow the car down and keep everything in control. I don't know why everyone seems to think that it would be this huge event.

yup, i had one awhile back. tire blew out as i was approaching a long bridge and needless to say, i was able to pull over to the shoulder but it was narrow enough that i couldnt change the tire. i had to drive 5mph to the end of the bridge and change the tire in the cold rain. and to make matters worse, the trunk was full of my personal belongings because i was in the process of moving to a different city.

Yep, see pics. Insurance Company says I was supposed to have beyond God powers and someone not lose control even though it was like being on Ice Skates:

Blow out, sliding, flipping

Those tires were bad....the alignment on that truck is WAY off.

The truck was for hunting and had off road tires. He supposedly didn't know that at the time. Of course you'll never hear the whole story.

I had my front right tire blow out on I-94 north of Chicago while coming back from Six Flags.

What's kind of funny is that my three buddies and I were waiting for the tow truck (there was no way I was going to put on the spare with cars going 90-95 past me), we had the transit cops and a state trooper called in from the people living in the houses close by complaining of 4 hooligans wandering around the exit ramp. Exciting.

Murphy was smiling on you😛
Rain? Check.
No place to change tire? Check.
Trunk full of <formerly dry> stuff? THE TRIFECTA!

Last RV trip my family took. We had just upgraded to a desil pusher from a gas puller and took a trip to Key West without really checking out the tires on it. We had 3 blow outs on the trip. Front left, rear left outside, and rear righ inside. First one scared the crap out of us. Second(the front one) we were side by side with a semi but dad managed to keep it in line and get us off the side of the road. By the thrid it was like "Ho hum, there goes another."

yes. ~65/70 and the rear passenger side sidewall gave out. I did not like where i pulled over either... somewhat of a blind curve on the right side right before an exit ramp (albeit a very long one... for GW parkway, southbound on 495 for those of you in DC). no loss of control.

happened to my mom a few years ago. She ended up driving it home which was around 2 miles from where it went. Must have been interesting. Wasn't very fun trying to change that tire that night though

Saw some old beater car's tires blow out in front of me.
He almost lost control and hit the wall. There was a wall on the right side of this highway to "reflect" the sound away from the houses.

2 years ago I had a blow out of my driver's side rear tire. Scared the hell out of me. Luckily I managed to get it to a gas station and called CAA for help.

:Q

I like how every photo he's ever taken is on that one page.

I never had a blow out but I was with my gf at the time and we were on freeway going about 65 at night. To the right of us we here this huge explosion and black things hitting our windshield. Next we see sparks flying at us and a car swerving to our left. The guy to the left of us had a blow out and I mean a blow out. The whole tire came off and was bare rim.

I was in the passenger seat of a old Olds 88 that blew the front right at about 120mph.

It was actually uneventual except for the fact the tire self-destructed in a million pieces, it looked like a cloud. By the time we pulled over all that was left was the rim.

I was behind a pickup with a small camper on it once that blew the back right. That thing fish-tailed all over the road and rolled over.

Yes, I lost almost the entire driver's side rear tire tire on my '00 civic at ~80 mph on an elevated bridge on I-95. I was driving and when I felt my car "kick" hard to the side. I managed to maintain control and not over react. I immediately re-checked all around me looking for what happened and I saw most of my tire rolling along side of my vehicle (but not quite keeping up) in my mirror. All that remained on the rim was about 1 inch of rubber on each side. The rest of the tire had seperated at the sidewalls as one piece. It was quite interesting.

Blow out on the apex of a bridge at about 65 mph. The guy behind me starts beeping like I dont realize what has happened and swerves into the lane to pull up adjecent to me (still honking like a mad man) rolls down the window (at about 50 mph now as im slowing down) and shouts and points like some kind of monkey on crack. I smiled at him wishing that his head would explode. Overall it wasnt that bad. There was a place to pull over at the bottom of the bridge and the tire didnt completely come off, luckily the rim didnt get bent except superficially and the tire place said it would be fine.

Overall I would say it was: frustrating >>> exciting.
OMFG...

bwhahahahaahahahaha......

yep, once while going to the mall or something in my dad's 95 Grand Caravan. My sisters and my cousin were in it along with myself, and all of a sudden we hear a metallic thump from the left side while going about 40-45 mph on a busy main street. After about 10 seconds, the van starts pulling to the left. I pull over into some parking lot, and see that the front left tire blew out. Thankfully, it was like a sunny and warm Saturday afternoon, so I was able to change the tire without any issues.
