Come to San Diego, most of the cyclists I see are wearing tight bright clothes, they don't have numbers on their backs but they are almost always wearing helmets and obeying traffic laws. It probably helps that we have dedicated bike lanes on most of the roadways here. Maybe you should vote for dedicated bike lanes and cyclist friendly legislation when it comes up in your area...just a thought.

We have some, they are pretty nice and kept clean but people don't use them. I have no idea why. They are wide enough for two people to ride side by side or safely pass a slower cyclist without going into traffic. They've got fresh, bright white paint. But, people ignore them and ride in the lane with cars. I seriously want to scream at them sometimes. It's like they are completely oblivious to the fact that they have a lane made just for them and/or have a death wish.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Hell, some of the bike lanes here are pretty iffy at times so I'll ride right on the edge of the bike lane. Never really had a problem with traffic other than the occasional clueless motorist who just isn't paying attention. I've taken the lane in some areas where there is no bike lane and no shoulder and never really had much trouble in those areas.

Perhaps you people need to spend some money on public awareness campaigns.
