Took it in because service engine light was on and they said it needed it's 60,000 mile tuneup (it's got 70,000 now).

Got called today and they said everything looked good and that they just changed the sparkplugs. The bill is $254. 60$ for the part...the rest for labor + tax. Does this sound right?

With your numbers, $60 parts + tax = about $65. $189 in labor, that should be about 2 hours of labor. Anyone know for sure if it takes 2 hours to put plugs into a Sentra?

It just seems like I could have changed the sparkplugs myself...are newer cars really that hard to change? Does it really take 30+ minutes per plug?

On my Honda accord, it took like ~3 min for each spark plug (4 of them)? hahaha...30+ minutes for a spark plug change. Also, you just screw it out, and screw in a new one, and put back the tubes. 😛

$60 for spark plugs???

I don't know what 60k service consists of so I can't comment on the labor charges.
But it should take no more than 5, at most 10 minutes to change out 4 sparks.

What set of spark plugs costs $60? Are they gold-plated or something? And $194 to screw in spark plugs? Wow.

A lot of newer fwd cars, especially v6's you have to take the top of the engine off (intake) usuallyt o get to the spark plugs, sometimes lower the engine.
