YACT

I have to get a new car... I'm trying to be smart about it. But I want something I will enjoy as well... I currently have a 97 honda civic with 150K miles, and the transmission, among other things, is junk...

My budget allows for no more than $350 per month. Whether it is a 2 year loan, 5 year loan, whatever.. I have been looking at getting another civic, like a 2004 for about $15k... I've also thought about getting an RX-8 because I love the way they drive, regardless of how fast it is... My friend seems stiff on the idea of getting an Acura RS-X.... Ford is doing 0% financing on Ford Excapes, which is something I like as well...

What should I do? I want class, comfort, style, and dependability... I like the idea of getting a new car with a gooood warranty, but I also like the idea of buying a good, used, known to be reliable car like the 2004 civic and saving the cash... I have the civic and about $2k to put down.... need to keep the payment around $350, lower is better...

I have a RSX Type S. It is quick and has good build quality. It has good handling for a front driver. I am not crazy about the Bose sound system but it will do. The maintainance costs are higher than Honda's but if you change the oil regularly you will get over 200,000 miles out of it.

is an amped stereo? It would be nice if I could simply replace the speakers and drop in a sub, rather than gutting the stereo and speakers, and having to add a new head unit, wire in an amp for both the subs and components, etc.. I'd like to be able to just drop in some Focal components and a 10" sub and call it a day... but I like volume, and the output from a regular stereo just isn't enough...

Those are three COMPLETELY different cars, with 3 pretty different price ranges. Figure out how much you want to spend, and what kind of car you want, and then start cross-shopping.

I have an escape, and it does what I need well, and it can take a beating. Plus, it's not too slow, as long as you get the V6 or the hybrid. I would avoid the 4 cylinder like the plague, cause the 0-60 on that is like 14 seconds, imagine merging with that thing.

$350 per month... regardless of the loan term length.... thats my budget. I'll spend more in total if the car merits it...

You know, since you're already looking at 3 completely different classes of car, why not add #4? 😛

why do you recommend this one? fast? is it reliable? would it be a "smart" buy?

a civic is totally different than a rx-8. do you want a quick pocket rocket or a reliable car?

edit: it seems like you really like civics. what trim are you thinking of, lx, ex, si?

i know they are different... I reallly like the style and ride of an rx-8, but i know the civic is more reliable, has better gas mileage, etc.. If I got a civic, probably an EX.. I like the Si, but I don't want a manual tranny...

I really like the 2004 Civic EX's.. I can find a good one for about $16k. The cheapest I can find the same quality in an rx-8 is about 20K. I am finding rs-x's with the same mileage and year for about $18k...

do you live in the city where manual transmission is a pain in the ass? otherwise, manual transmission is very fun to drive. 🙂

how about an acura tsx. warning though, all the 4 bangers we've mentioned will not pull you to your seat (fast off the line).

Look for an old-model 05 Civic on the lot of a dealership.

the blue one is exactly what I want if I get a civic... that style, but I want the color of the grey one sitting next to it. I have some 17" motegi rims that would go on it...
