Two nights ago the wife filled up the windstar with gas. Yesterday when the wife got home she said the vehicle had a shake in it. I go out to the van and start it up and it's running really rough. I rev it up to around 2k and it seems to not miss as much or not very noticable. I checked the oil and the transmission fluid, all looked good. That when I asked the wife when did she last fill it up, and when she said last night, I thought it may have been bad gas. Should I get a check engine light if its because of bad gas? I went to the auto store in it and got some gas treatment stuff that says it removes water or condensation. drove it back home and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. not sure if it had enough time to work.

What do you guys think, besides its a ford. 😛

Could be a buncha things. Check the spark plugs to see if they are okay and the connectors are tightly connected. This could happen if you had lost compression in one of the chambers as well. It also could be a malfunction of one of the fuel injectors.

But then it could be bad gas or simply water seeping into the distributor.

what has me confused is there is no check engine light on. The tank still has around 500 miles on it so it'd be awhile before all of it is run through. i guess time will tell

I suggest that you take it to a mechanic. He could easily check whether the gas was bad or not by disconnecting the fuel line and then manually spraying fuel into the fuel injector.

I know all of this since this happened to me. Your car sounds like its not running on all cylinders. Have you had any rain recently in your region? Or did you take the car out for a carwash lately before the problem happened?

BTW, in my case the checkengine light did not come on as well.

Why you mention the car wash? The wife did after getting gas, go thru one of the drive thru washes that the gas stations have. I was kinda PO'ed at her for getting gas at the station(BP) because the price of gas was more expensive than across the road at Kroger.

This can happen if water seeps into the distributor. You might want to check that just in case. If its a water seepage issue, eventually the water will evaporate but it all depends on how much water seeped through.

Do check all the connectors to and from the distributor if you can.

Is that the device that all the plug wires go to?

Yep. Make sure the car isn't running and press against each connector to make sure its not loose. Also its supposed to be tightly sealed against moisture but its one of the main reasons why you see stalled vehicles in rainy weather.

Ok, will check that this morning. Thanks
