Guys, i have a baby on the way. My wife and i just got a yukon so now we have a family vehicle. I need to get rid of my dodge ram to get something more frugal on the gas. Here is my situation. I have only had the truck for a year. Therefore, i havent even cut into the principle, so i am going into this car with some negative equity.

This car is pretty much gonna be a single person car. Therefore, im thinkin about getting a 2k4 tiburon. With the v6.

What do u guys think?

a 172hp V6 @ $18k? the mpg isn't even that good 20/26. how about waiting a bit and laying down some more bucks? you could go w/ the accord hybrid. v6 power and EXTREMELY frugal on gas.

I wouldn't get rid of the Ram. How many miles a week do you drive? Even if you spend $10 more on gas each week to drive the Ram, at least you're not paying $10 a week towards payments on the negative equity.

The manual TC actually gets pretty poor gas mileage, since the gearing is aggressive. Don't know about auto.

Sound advice there.

You would have to have some HUGE savings in gas to avoid the negative equity/depreciation trap.

Unless you can sell it for enough to cover the vast, vast majority of your oustanding loan you're better off sticking it out.

As far as the Tiburon, they're decent but overpriced. With the rebates that are supposed to be coming out (to make it more competitive with the Scion tC) it's a little better. With more power & RWD it would be a pretty nice little car. Very good looking for a Hyundai.

Yeah, I'd keep the Dodge unless you just can't fit yourself and the wife/kid. Besides, it has a defeatable passenger airbag so safety isn't an issue. I'd just keep the truck.
