I was wondering if there was a way to use a paper as in this to get my error codes (check engine light is on). I refuse to pay Tires Plus or Autozone (lost 100 bucks on a misread code). Any way to do it?

That only works on older OBD-1 vehicles. Yours an OBD-2.

Yeah, you will need to get your hands on an OBD-II scanner. They are usually a little pricey, but if know someone that works at an auto repair shop you might be able to get them to do it. It only takes a minute to pull the codes.

You can in fact use a screwdriver to get the codes on a 4th gen max (OBDII), but on a 5th gen and newer it won't work. Just giving an instance of how to get them 🙂 In any case go to autozone, they'll pull your obdII for free. Call ahead to make sure your particular local one does it, but most do. DO NOT pay a mechanic unless you have to. They'll charge $60 and it takes a couple of minutes.

Yep autozone checks them for free.

And without knowing your code, I can already tell you that your gas cap is not screwed down tightly.
