1988 GMC Vandura 2500. Fresh crate engine from 2000.

OCCASIONALLY - only maybe 10% of the time, it makes a very loud whining noise all the way through first and second gears when accellerating from a standstill. So what's broken now? It also tends to do it more often, but not exclusively from a cold start.

If the transmission is going, I think it's time to give up on maintaining it and just turn it into a fashionable outhouse. The whole thing has a resale value of ~$1300, even with the crate engine and the extensive modification.

I'm in the same boat with an old '88 E-150 that's worth nothing to sell. I figure I might as well keep it for towing or hauling the occasional drywall and what not. Trouble is the rust. Everytime I turn around, something needs replaced. I'd certainly bail out if it needed a tranny, but I don't have a new engine in mine. I'd take that one to a tranny shop for an estimate. That's one heavy duty truck there. Might be worth it to keep her going.
