Looking into purchasing meself a vehicle.
I'm not limiting myself to 240's, but i love the RWD, like the looks, and from my brief web researching in the past few hours they seem to really have potential if I wanted to upgrade later.

Price - guy says 3700 i don't think I'd offer more than 3500 for it though.

1993 240sx SE
5 speed tranny
117k
White
power windows, locks, sunroof
Few mods, haven't checked em out yet but will do:
tenzor 17inch poke ten rims in white
kouki 180sx taillights
blitz nurspec catback exhaust
hotshot headers
injen intake with cold air extension
ngk performance plugs
bosch platinum 2 plugs
pioneer head unit with 12 inch fosgate sub and amp

Crappy pics can be seen here

Car has 2 small dents the guy says, in the front fender and bumper, waiting on pics of it. I'd get to see and drive the car before I bought of course :)
I haven't found out how many owners the car has yet, or the current owner's age or anything or ran a carfax report, I just found the car on a nissan forum this evening.

Anyhow, from the info I've got and gave you, do you think 3500 is a reasonable price to pay for this car?
I'm 18, need a car so I can get a real job this year, and my parents are helping me out a bit with insurance because I'll be driving my brother to hockey every damned day this winter and helping out in other ways.

Anyhow, what do you extremely intelligent guys and gals think?

Thanks for the input
-Sam

Nope, the 240's are RWD :) Fun in the rain, just can't be sleepy that's all (not too easy for me)

Well, here's my take as to why. My reasons aren't necessarily going to be important to you though, so take it FWIW :)

Owned by a kid.
Riced out by a kid.
Bagged by a kid.

While they are a good, tough car (I've always been a Nissan Z guy myself) I'd be willing to bet that its had a very hard life and will start nickle/diming you to death. Plus, I think he's asking to much for it to boot.

What to buy? Well, first advice is to buy a car that hasn't been modded. Try to get something owned by someone more than 25 and hasn't had a hard life. You might pay a few $$$ more for it (then again, maybe not!) but it will be worth it in the long run. I can't recomend a specific car for you, but just get something thats been loved an maintained.

IMHO, this ain't.

KBB says around 3k... but i'm guessing he's piling on the cost of the mods he's done... and since it is modded you can pretty much guess that it's been driven hard. S13 240s are very nice project cars... even moreso with the sr swap but i guess that's out of your budget. Good luck. :)

window sticker will go for sure, but the muffler will stay :)

After running a blue book check and all that it looks like it'd be worth about 3 grand in good condition, no mods, without the dent.

hrmmmm...

and bernse thanks your 2nd post was way more helpful than your first :)

I'm definately gonna find out more about this guy and whatever previous owners it may have had and check it out in person and give it a nice drive before I make any decisions. I'm thinking that if theres nothing wrong with it that he didn't list and it drives nice it'd be worth 3 grand. The only thing on the car that screams rice is the tacky blue wires and the retarded window sticker. Although a fart can is probably a ricer's favorite accessory I'm not gonna give this guy sh!t for it, at least he went and did the whole shabang with the intake, headers and cat back.

Eh...time will tell. I know theres a 240 out there someplace for me :)

out of my budget for now :) Still trying to find out exactly what options it had before he went and tossed the crap on it so I can get him an accurate before modding KBB figure and talk him down a bit. If he's older or bigger than me I think it'd be easier to talk him down in person than after I just drove 100 miles and he knows I'd be happier to drive back in a different car :)

sounds like you're real set for a 240... ever check out the classifieds at 240sx.org? Maybe you'll find one there if this one doesn't turn out too good. :)

thanks for the links. I've been looking at 240sxforums and 1 other one, but I think they're both more active and better set up than the 1 you just showed me. I'm obviously not gonna stop looking and limit my options after a couple hours of searching, this was just the 1st decent one i found in my price range in my area, and I figured why not share it with my AT buddies :)

yeah they're setup rather odd  :D... theres 240sxforums like you mentioned and club240, nissanforums, and zilvia. 240sx.org organized a 240 meet around here last year or so... pretty cool... :) you're probably gonna end up drifting or something. :D

Drifting? What's drifting ;) I'd never do something like that (til i've had the car for a few hours and gotten a feel for it that is :D)

I don't think he should be charging more for mods, IMO mods, even if you want them should lower the value of the car or not change it. It's hard enough to sell a used car, the dude shouldn't be trying to charge more than it's KBB value I think.

Miles and age seem decent if the quality when you drive it is good. That is until I saw all the gay performance crap that the owner has done to it. That says to me it was owned by a young guy, or at least somebody who drove the car hard. So that presents issues of wear on both the engine and the transmission. Ie, I'd pass.

If you want a 240 get another one - this one is not worth that kind of money.

i missed out on an unmodded '96 240sx se w/60k miles because i was low-balling :( (he sold it for $6500, had I known I would've offered $6600 or something)

just fyi, if you find an unmodded 240sx in excellent condition thats been advertised elsewhere, you may have to pay a premium for it (all the kids who wanna be takumi from initial d want these cars)

Takumi drove a Hachiroku or AE86 not a 240.

I wouldn't get it. From the mods, it was obviously driven like I drive my 240sx... for entertainment! Then again, I accelerate slower than everyone else, and shift below 3000 rpm. I just don't brake for turns.
