Since they support you better, they are much better for spirited driving (like in the mountains on twisty roads), or say if you are a competitive person in the SCCA, either in autocross or roadracing at places like Buttonwillow. Sitting the correct way and whatnot in your seat can have a lot to do with how well you can drive your car. You don't want to be slipping 'round in your seat when doing the slalom.
Well, if it is a weekend warrior car that I can understand. The stock 92 Civic seats aren't very supportive nor bolster you well. But I owned a 92 Civic sedan, it would take a lot of work before a car like that can be taken to a road course. Also, you don't need racing seats to be competitive in autoX. If you're sliding around, a strap or harness ($40-80) is much cheaper than a $800 seat that costs nearly as much as your car!
Torinos don't save that much weight over stockers... especially fabric stock seats with no power adjustment. If they wanted weight-savings, they would have went with a non-adjustable seat with a light composite shell. Something like an FIA-approved OMP or Sparco or Bride or Corbeau or etcetcetc.
I realize that you could just buy a harness, however, some regulations in certain racing leagues prohibit the use of a harness unless you have certain seats so the harness can go through the headrest/back of seat in a certain manner. Also the manufacturer of the harness usually reccomends against installing these harnesses in any manner other than specified by them.
Many stock seats do have the proper headrest style to use, but also another thing to remember is that you either have to attach or anchor the harness to a rollbar or to the top mount of the rear seatbelts. The rear anchor should be as level as possible.
The civic seats from 92-95 if i recall had the headreast mounted on one side using a single arm type of thing. You cannot install a harness on these stock seats because the harness would slide around where the harness goes through the headrest mount.
