I'm seeing a lot of names out there: Quattro, Xdrive, 4Matic, ATTESA, 4Motion, etc. Which one is the most advance and is "better" for car

EDIT: ok, I am interested in cars. Not for offroading.

You have to first define "best". Considering that the Jeep Rubicon is the only one that comes with locking differentials and it also comes with a full transfer case. I'd say that one's the best. But 9 out of 10 soccer moms would disagree the second they try to accelerate or brake while turning.

for a car application (snow/bad weather) and crossover SUV.

I'm no car nut but I'm saying Xdrive is probably the most advanced followed by 4motion. someone will have to provide the technical reasons.

I remember seeing on a car show awhile ago that Subaru's method was the most efficient and it's parts weighed much less than the systems used by competitors. Other than that, I have no clue... Good question though.

Subaru has the best purely mechanical system in their manual trans cars. 50/50 power split with great traction and control, but wheelspin is still possible when desired.

the evo has dynamic 4wd, able to shift power to any of the 4 wheels independently, 1 to 4 wheel drive.
the gtr i believe is also capable of this

That's ridiculous. Why is the competitor to the WRX STi (Lancer Evo) priced the same or less than the STi if Subaru can manufacture their drivetrain parts so much cheaper than anyone else? BTW, Mitsu/DSM AWD pwns j00.

I remember reading that there is a system that can control wheel spin/traction without using the brakes, unlike most other systems

Well perhaps because there is more to either of those cars than the transmission...

:Q NO!

Really, they put a lot of money into the cars besides just the mechanical features. Plus, with Subaru, they want the price high so not just any little foodley foodley will buy it and then drive like crap.

edit: I like my subaru but I haven't tried any other AWD cars. (nor will I)

that's not really a valid statement since ALL subaru cars have AWD standard. If they offered non-AWD in their cars as an option then they probably would sell the same amount as every other manufacturer. Probably even less because they don't do the volume othere popular manufactures do.

Um, what? Subaru sells the most AWD cars on the planet, which leads me to believe that they have among the most experienced AWD engineers, which means I'm not making a long stretch by presuming they may also have the most advanced AWD system. I'm not saying they DO have the most advanced system, but if I had to put money on it that's what I'd say.

Obviously there may be other systems more advanced like in the bugatti supercar or something similar.

Step back, and think before you post.
Mabey people buy Subaru BECAUSE its AWD? Gee, who woulda thought that standard AWD would influence a buying decision!

Yet another idiotic statement... That's like saying GM makes the best FWD cars since they sell the most. Sales don't mean much when referring to quality. Sales usually reflect price and availability rather than quality. Why, if only the highest quality cars sold the most everyone would drive Ferraris and Porsches and Lambos.
