To those who had experiences, please comment on the above question. I haven't driven much cars but did testdrove both Lexus LS430 and GS430. These two were the most quietest among others I have driven e.g. MB, BMW, VW, Audi, Volvo..... You?

My uncle's LS400 is vault like. Big MB's (E and S class) are also like this. You just feel totally isolated from everything around you. Kinda nice but kinda creepy at the same time.

Lexus LS430. Smoothest car in the world. Not quite as dynamically capable as the europeans, but you want quiet and smooth...can't really go wrong with the lexus.

Also, consider some of the high end GM cars (buicks, cadillac, etc.)....which are very quiet and smooth as well.

Any luxury car, friend got a BMW, 12 yrs old, totally silent when up to a resonable speed, just costs him $1.5-$2k a year in repairs.

You've already driven what is widely regarded as the best in ride (Lexus LS)...superior even to the larger S classes/7 series/A8s, etc.. Keep in mind, without direct back-to-back comparison, cars in the luxury-class are very hard to differentiate in terms of ride compliance and isolation....at least in any quantitative assessment. They ALL ride very well, even more sporty variants like BMW and Audi. What you can tell is the type of character each car provides and your preference as to which you like better.

Remember, the key toward a "modern luxury car" (as opposed to a traditional) ride is more compliance...not necessarily isolation. Think BMW vs. Lincoln Town car. You can preserve a fine ride quality in a BMW with exceptional handling by improving compliance BUT giving up a bit of isolation. This translates into the character of the car and will have an impact on not only ride, but the steering feel and handling characteristics.

Lexus is definitely among the best.
Most large luxury cars should fit the bill, but (in general) the sportier they are the more noise you will likely hear. Once it gets to a certain point your radio will be the loudest thing in the car anyway.

Ditto, only thing is they are very wallowy. Ford may have fixed this in the newer generations 98+

Lexus IMO is overrated. The ride in the lower end 4dr model (not the sporty one the other one sorry for lack of detail, is comarable to my sisters 2000 Malibu). The SC and high end 4dr are nice but an amercian full size full luxury will ride smoother at the expense of handling.

I have never been in a full size Mercedes but I do enjoy driving their SUVs.

I vote for Lincoln Town Car

seriously the ride was the same. Very thumpy over bumps. I do not expect that in a Lexus but it was there, my sisters car, Camries and other cars of that sort have the same thump. I like to call it the front wheel drive thump. I believe it has something to do with the strut suspension. That thump is nonexistant in other type suspension cars.

I would say if I fixed the rattle on my 500,000 mile Crown Victoria it would offer a better and quieter ride than that particular Lexus. Call it BS but the car had low mileage and was properly maintained. You have to understand I am the kind of person that notices quirks about cars.

I am not going to say that the 2 are comaparible now that my sisters car has 55,000 miles and little to no maintenance, but low mileage to low mileage both cars drove, handled and sounded the same. I cant tell you how the Lexuz has stood the test of time since my friend repalced it long ago with a Corvette. She too complained that the car was not like her SC400.

Ok how about everyone who posts an opinion in this thread back it up with realworld experience not just what they read in a magazine?

Tires make an unbelievable difference.
I had some goodyear cheapies and switching to Michellins made a huge difference.
