YACT: Which car battery brands are best?

I've always had good luck with Diehard Gold. I've been extremely hard on them with huge stereo systems in the past and they still seem to well outlast their warranty.

Interstate.
Best bang for the buck. They lived long & well when I worked in OTR trucking.
For motorcycles, YUASA.

Ditto that. There's no need for an optima unless you're running additional electronics or need to be very, very careful about leaking battery acid (Optimas are gell cells and won't leak acid).

Most people buy optimas due to the "rice factor".

I just bought a Wal-Mart battery. It scored well in Consumer Reports and has given me no problems.

i need a battery a while back and I did some research with some help from ATOT.

Turns out there are only about 3 or so major manufacturers. With exide getting crap reviews, which they sell at strauss auto.

Johnson Controls gets excellent ratings and they make batteries for Autozone's brand, most Sear'sDiehard, I think Interstate, and lots others.

I was going to get the autozone battery, but when I went to my local tire change/oil change place they offered me a Bosh truck battery with a massive 650 CCA for about $95 out the door, it was too sweet a deal to pass up.

i got an energizer one from pepboys, works pretty darn good so far..

my motorcycle battery is from cyclegear, its their branded battery, cheap and good.

That's a deep cycle unless I'm remembering wrong. You don't want or need a deep cycle battery in a car.

You're correct. I think the real problem with it is the lowered cranking ability compared to the red top of the same size/weight. The ability to deep cycle is useful, even in many automotive applications, though not as much as some people think.

Why? 🙂

It's not necessary, but saying that you don't want it is a little extreme AFAIK. It shouldn't really be any different, but if you happen to leave your lights on a lot, it will last a lot longer than a normal battery. 😉

Walmart - If you get stranded, chances are there is a walmart nearby that is open 24 hours a day. Plus they really don't give a fvck about battery exchanges
