As in brake pads.

If under warranty...

Do you have them changed by the dealer? Or by a third party like Just Brakes?

Mazda wants to charge me $418 for all four pads on my Mazda 3S! Now, I have changed the pads on my Miata myself, and it takes no more than 30 minutes and $20 of Mazda genuine parts!

$418 for pads? Lmfao. Go to a place like part source or princess auto.

EDIT: Ah, didn't notice your original question. Well, if you get it done by a certified mechanic, you should be in the clear. Ask your dealership.

Generally they just try to scare you into paying their high costs for doing it. Your warranty won't be voided unless they can prove that you changing your pads directly caused something to go wrong with your car.

That's why I think buying a new car just for the warranty coverage is such a joke. Everytime the car's got a problem, it's a "wear item" or pro-rated, or some other BS.

My method has always been to buy the second cheapest at Autozone/Napa/other chain. It's worked great so far.

The rotors shouldn't be turned unless there's damage. Check for runout and thickness and unless those are off or there's gouging, don't mess.

I get almost all my BMW parts from interautoparts in the L.A. area, but Gary (the owner) cuts me a helluva break on prices...I get them for about the same price that the shops pay...and I get top quality parts...

hawk pads from tirerack.com, i like to support them since they have really good reviews and service.

and i actually do need these pads, the OEM pads leave deposits on the rotors, causing braking vibration.

The Rotors need turned every time you change the pads or you may end up damaging the brake system. I get mine at NAPA.

You need to learn more about the Magnuson-Moss Warrenty act of 1975 that says unless they are providing the part free of charge. The company cannot void your warrenty unless they can prove that the part was the cause of greater failure to the product it was installed on. This goes for almost anything replacement aftermarket. Modifing the engine is a differant story.

rotors always are turned at my shop and most places I know. Rotors will take shape to a pad always and the new pads wont set right unless the rotors are turned. Also in the normalcourse of driving, most rotors gain a bit of runout whih can be fixedby a slight turning.
