are they all the same? i'm wondeing if i should spend $59 on scion wheel locks or get an aftermarket set. please recommend a good set.

go ahead and spend 60 bucks on wheel locks, it dosen't cost me anything to smash your passenger window and grab the key out of the glovebox

try to get the heptagonal nuts.

they are of japanese brand, and are not only lightweight, but they will have to break off every damn lug or get the key in order to get them off, most theives dont pack something to tackle a 7-sider

that also concerns me, whether or not to keep the key in the car. i also don't know where to get 7 sided locks. please recommend a brand

That's bull. You can easily defeat the "tuner" lugs by taking a slightly smaller socket and a hammer. I use the splined ones myself, Muteki I think, but I make no claim of them being locks. If you want good locks try McGard for locks.

EDIT: The keys for the 7 sided lugs tend to be poorly made, even the genuine Kyokugen brand or whatever they are.

yup, soft metal key/adapter deforms when using them on the lugs after a while. might be possible to get one machined out of billet. you can take out just about any key/lug out there, period. Just depends how much noise the theif wants to make or not. Only way to keep wheels on the car is to weld em😉

Why would you keep the key in the car? Just stick it on the ring with your ignition key. 😕

Agreed. I know a guy that has 3 different lock nuts on each wheel. Lets just say thieves left a bad taste in his mouth.

LOL... sweet... I'm glad I only spent $20 on them then.

Anyway, smashing makes noise... removing regular nuts from tires does not.

A lot of people dont leave the special adapter for them in their car... what happens if you get a flat tire or something ? S.O.L

Like someone else said... Do you really need it ?

Only reason my car has them is because it came from the factory with special locks.

The best wheel locks I've seen were the lug nuts on our '78 GMC. It used 8 7/8" nuts that were usually on long enough that when we went to remove a wheel, we broke two sockets before going to the lug wrench under the seat. Anyone that would've stolen those wheels would have earned them. The wheels were the old chrome 8 spokes, 16.5". Most bottle jacks (including the one inside the cab) wouldn't reach the axles.
