I recently got a 60k mile checkup where they replaced my spark plugs, air filter, flushed my radiator and gave me an oil change. After I did this my RPMs are running a little high. When going 80 on the freeway my RPM is usually 3k, but recently it's been 3.5k. I took it to the dealer since it's still under warranty and they said they found nothing wrong. Could new spark plugs cause a jump in RPMs like this? Does anyone know what might be causing this? Thanks.

edit:

By the way this is a 5 speed manual transmission.

I actually did recently get a ticket for going 50 in a 45 zone. And instead of bitching about it I paid the fine and went to class.

Not that that has anything to do with this thread. Any ideas anyone?

uh, either you're driving in a lower gear than before, or you're driving faster than before. There's no other explanation for the RPMs being higher than before. The only other possibility is that your tach was either wrong before, or is wrong now.

I have the same problem. Mine makes a "whining" sound too. And my MPG has gone down A LOT. like 7 miles per gallon or so...

I'm obviously not driving in a lower gear. Someone told me that possibly the new spark plugs are causing this? Think theres any truth to this?

I can think of no way that spark plugs would make a 500 rpm difference in engine speed.
