Try to take it to your family trusted mechanic first. The only times I've taken my car to a dealership is when the operation is fully covered under warranty.

Case in point: Co-worker's 4WD wasn't working. The small family owned dealership said they would diagnose the problem for free but wouldn't pay any repair / labor because she didn't buy a warranty. She took it to a dealership and they said they would be installing a new 4WD dash switch for $203. .... She bought the part herself for $20 and took 20 minutes of her time to install it.

Dealer will replace the same Fuel Injector that I paid $110 for, & charge me $160 for one + another $50 test & about $50 labor. He says it will fix the problem & I will get a 1yr/12,000 mile warranty.

Total Costs:

Parts: $140 (Injector + Gasket)
Labor: $30
Test: $50

Repeat:

Parts: $160
Labor: $50
Test: $50

Total: $480, I pray that the dealer will get it right. Wish me luck, guess I have to blow of the hot ass girl I was suppose to go out with 2nd week in a row thanks to my Daewoo.

Edit: Ok, shes not that hot but she is a girl.

$300 for an intake manifold gasket? Do you anybody with some tools? It's not an expensive part at all! It's just a royal PITA to take stuff off to get at it. But a leaky intake would prolly increase power to a certain degree since you're going to be drawing in unmetered air. That means a lean condition and thus MORE power... of course, you're in danger of melting/holing your pistons. That is unless knock is so bad that you get all that power from running lean taken away.

Easy way to tell I guess would be to see if there's any suction taking place around the intake manifold gasket from a leak. Mebbe you can put your ear near it and listen for suction? Hankerchief? Water droplets?

Can you hear the engine knocking or anything similar under hard acceleration? Vibrates more than normal and runs like crap? Could be timing belt tensioner mebbe? Someone either back me up or shoot me down on this.

Lol. You've just got to work it a lot more because you have a Daewoo. Your pimp effort requirement goes down as the cost of car goes up.

my bet would be a vacuum leak. look for a broken/cracked vacuum hose that connects to the intake manifold. do you hear a hissing sound while the car is running?

Get yerself a can of carb cleaner or started fluid. While the car is running spray around the intake manifold where the gasket is. If there's a leak you will know......
