Really with the hot deal going on for the Saab 92-X Aero at just under $20k, its a very hard deal to beat for the money.

Turbo, all wheel drive and has a hatch back.

Sounds perfect for what you're looking for.

How much do you want to spend? Are you into modding at all? Desired vehicle type?

3rd gen F-bodies can be had for dirt cheap in running condition, parts are very common and cheap, the SBC/700r4 combo is virtually bulletproof (although most 305s in those cars are slugs), and the cars are easy to work on...although gas mileage isn't exactly great.

Or, you could get an older DSM car (late 80's/early 90s Talon, Eclipse, Laser) which are also widely available cheap, and easy to make VERY fast with relatively little $$$. Those are lighter than an old F-body, and probably get better mileage in stock form.

Old school LTD/Crown Vic/Grand Marquis
Bought one in 02 (a 77 Grand Marquis), put 5-6000 miles on it, sold it for $50 less than I bought it for ($350). Only thing I had to do was put in a battery in the time I owned it.

heck look around town, in peoples front yards. I bet you can get a nice car for around $100, you just have to look. I wanted a car to pretty much make my offroad toy, and found a 76 ford maverick with a straight 6 in it for $100, and I sold it a year later for $500. Can't kill those cars....

My brother in law is going w/ his Marine unit in July. How American is it to be shipped off to fvcking Iraq on JULY 4th? He's missing all the USO stuff and July 4th crap.

But best of luck to ya b0mberman. What happened to your current car?

Damn, that's messed up. Whatever commander authorized that is a completely thoughtless asshat. I'd make sure local news outlets knew about it, some up the chain of command might move it by a day.

Why? It's not the job of commanders to accomodate holidays if the mission requires sacrifice. I have spent any number of holidays working and/or deployed on military orders. Military members get 30 days of paid leave per year, plus ten federal holidays - this is by no means the biggest sacrifice anyone has ever made for the mission. I'm sorry to RB, but my guess is that his brother-in-law (who's in the service) understands this better than his family does.

It is, however, a commander's job to try and maintain morale, and shipping them out on the 4th definitely can't be good for morale. I was in the AF myself, I know the drill.

I snagged a '90 Integra for $900 with 135K on it, it's actually a fun little drive, 5 speed, sun roof, light and handles well for its age. I'm sure you can find a 90-93 integra for cheap with decent milage

If you can find a 94\95ish Lincoln Continental\Town Car go for it. When they work, they're a joy to drive and they have monstrous trunks.

I've actually had my eye on that deal for a while...how much would I stand to lose when I resell the car in November?

Or, alternatively, how much will I have lost in depreciation come Nov 06 when I return?

I'd say a mid-nineties Ford Aerostar. Do your research; they can be had cheap, many are 4cylinder and if taken care of are quite reliable.
