YACT: What does "Organic Brake Pads" mean?

or, I guess I should ask...what are the different types of brake pads and where would "organic" fit in?

You don't want to put organics on a car with semi-metallics or ceramics. It will reduce stopping power. The benefit to them is they don't squeal as much but they don't last as long as others.

You don't want to put organics on a car with semi-metallics or ceramics. It will reduce stopping power. The benefit to them is they don't squeal as much but they don't last as long as others.

Organics also don't dust nearly as much as semi-metallics and ceramics; ceramics usually dust less than metals. Pads like PBR Deluxe are organic and are pretty good pads. Organics do not have as much heat resistance as semi-metallics and ceramics.

Get the ceramic ones. They are supposed to work better. And don't produce that dust that gets your rims dirty.

Most places that advertise brake services for an ultra low price will state that they are for organic pads.

Then when you are there, they will state the your vehicle required metallic pads. And oh by the way the price is about 50% higher for those pads.

Actually, they are made of organic compounds, so that you don't get that nasty black dust on your rims...
