YACT: what causes brakes to grab?

My brakes have issues with grabbing for the first few miles after I let it sit for a few days. I bring the car to a gentle stop at low speed and the brake just grabs hard when I'm almost completely stopped.

One of my front tires skidded today right before I came to a complete stop because it grabbed suddenly. Grabbing always goes away after driving it for a bit. What is happening at the rotor/pads when it grabs like this?
 
What car is it? It might help if you tell people in case they know of a problem with your particular car :roll:
 
do you have 4 wheel discs or drums in the rear?

i was going to say slight rust from brake dust and moisture on the rotors sometimes takes a stop or two two come off. this happens when the car is parked otuside and it rains and it isn't driven for a while.

does the pedal feel normal when this happens?

What is happening at the rotor/pads when it grabs?. No where did I ask whether or not this particluar model has this and that problem. I'm interseted in the phenomena at the component level.

See, I knew this... because I didn't have a reading comprehension problem.
 
your problem will be related to the moisture in your brake fluid, what happens is your flexible brake lines allow the brake fluid to absorb water, now under normal operating circumstances this is ok and will not really affect your braking performance.
but if you have let you car sit for a while what happens is the water seperates from the fluid and is like water in oil, as soon as you apply the brake it heats up the fluid and the water which will cause the water boil, this displaces the brake fluid momentarely as the car slows and then as it is reabsorbed by the brake fluid the comes rushing back and force the caliper to close with more force than the intial application and it lock the wheel.
Sounds like you may need a fluid change!

Actually, the way you worded it, you sounded like you were having brake problems and wanted help figuring it out, not the specifics of why it does that.

"My brakes have issues" sounds like a problem.
