Why would you expect a boat like the Town Car to have a tach?

It's an automatic, it's not too important to have a tachometer (though it would be nice).

I thought it was standard stuff. I have honestly never driven a car without a tachometer, ever, and I've driven some road boats too.

I got in and I was like, "Something is missing. :Q"

tachs should be standard on stick cars. its just wierd otherwise. although i guess you'd get real good at shifting by ear only

My VW Beetles (real air cooled ones) didn't have tachs and I could shift them without the clutch just by the sound of the engine. It was one of those useful things to learn in case the clutch cable broke.

I almost bought a Ranger that had no tach. It was a standard, too! It's hard to judge when is too high without a tach. If I knew the car intimately, it would be no problem, but what if I had just bought it and was forced to accelerate quickly? I might accidentally redline it without even knowing.

And most autos that I've driven had not had tachs.

It's not that I need it, it's just that the thing was sitting in my driveway (rental car) and I wanted to sail around in it, but I was surprised when I got in.

I didn't know so many cars didn't have tachometers.

I drive a 2001 Focus ZX3 (ugly hatchback!) and I have a tach. Although, I think it was removed for the '02 models, or something. I dunno, I never use it, except to see how much my car is straining to go nowhere.

I wanted to sail around in it...

Was it seaworthy? Needs more engine, eh? Only thing I don't like about 'em.

My dad's 98 s10 manual didn't have a tach. After driving for about 1 year I could shift w/o using the clutch.
