YACT: VW Jetta needs 02 sensor and rear brakes at 30k

Girlfriends Jetta has been a pos since day one. Windows go up and down all by themselves, yet it can't be fixed by any service dept. (4 diff. tries), airbag lights like to be on all the time, window washer fluid light is only 24/7, except for the first minute after you top it off, seats are so hard to lay down, clinking noise in front left wheel, and a handful of other things too.

Now, her car started sputtering the other day and upon taking it to VW they said it was an 02 sensor, oh, and her reaar breaks are worn out. Skip ahead 4 days.....she still has no car? They claim that the o2 sensor is rare and needs shipped in from the manufacturer? So the day it is supposed to come in they magically get sent the wrong item? Now it is supposed to be readt on Monday.

How hard is it to replace the both of the o2 sensors and is it common for them to go so soon. Only 30 k on the car?

Wifes are gone on her Golf and it has just over 40 k. I don't remember anyone saying they are "rare" though.
EDIT: Oh yea, they should only take a few minutes to replace with the car on a lift.

I try to like VW, but it does indeed seem that their quality has gone down the sh!tter.

only 40k? wow that sucks, i have 85k on mine, and my friend has over 100k on his, althogh we'll be replacing them soon to gain some mileage. Has she had front brake work done before? her rears shoudln't wear out before her fronts do.

by law u could get the car declared lemon and force the dealaership to give you a new car if its still under warrenty. Not sure what state you are in but in california if the dealership can't fix the same problem 3 different times it declared a lemon and they must give you a new car.

edit: i see u are in ohio, check the laws in your state

Just replaced the front pads about a month ago. I pulled the rears about a year ago and they were fine at the time but I have a set of shoes already to go on.

Next time pick a different dealer to service your car. I think the crappy dealer is giving you BS. Dealers are VW's worst's enemy.

There was a voluntary facotry recall on the 02 sensors I think, about a year ago.

I believe that 02 sensors should be covered under emissions law, which is 100k. Worth a check, anyway.

rear break wear is a common problem with the VW's. You can expect them to wear out before the fronts, which is kinda odd since the front is doing most of the stopping.

But yes, thats normal

And o2 sensors going out is also a common problem, so are the MAFs breaking. If this is not under warranty I would go buy the parts from www.vwparts.com and install it yourself. It isnt more than a 10 minute job. Dealers will rape you on this.

That's what I was kinda thinking to. Trying to find out where to find this info. We have also had it to a total of three different dealers to get this crap fixed. There aren't anymore that are close to us anymore.

althought i love my 2000 jetta, i must admit, the vw service depts. are the worse people to deal with. They are nothin but cocky, ignorant, and mis-leading sobs. but then again the only company that appeals to me is VW( of course in the VW price range, honda,toyota,etc..)

Sounds like you have a crappy dealer.

Take the car to another VW dealer. BTW, my 02 Golf is at 61,000 and only one problem (window seal cracked) so far.

Well actually your right to an extent they do not give you a NEW car BUT they do give you back ALL the money you originally paid for it sales price, Taxes, Down payment, EVEN DMV fees BELIEVE IT, I lemoned a Toyota corolla for having the Air bag light always come on after 6 times in service I said screw this but you do need an attorney! or they will try to blow you off!
